Hawkeye Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Just curious, I know they are a few people who are in college that are here and I think they are a few that still check this place out that and are non playing alumni that stop by here. If so, are doing marching band, concert, jazz, etc. and where are you/did you to play? For myself, music is only a club activity here, so I am doing that. No idea what kind of band they plan on making, but at least is something. Quote
bonepit06-07 Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 yeh i wanna be a music major in compiter education at North Texas or Texas State. Quote
titancoaster Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 My goal is to double major at UNT with majors in Music Education and Composition. With my wishes of being a high school director and writing my own shows. Quote

WOH! me too! although, my number one is University of Michigan: 1. Michael Daugherty 2. Amy Porter 3. Professor Haithcock... I don't think it could get much better than that. The application for Michigan is intense though. It's actually almost enough to discourage me from applying. Quote
titancoaster Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 I dont know, like my parents really want me to stay in Texas for college, and I really want to teach in Texas, so thats why Im not thinking about any out of state universities Quote
bluebellbrass07 Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 I'm currently doing music performance at the University of Denver. The best part: No football team. No football team = no marching band =) Quote
clarinetrocks Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 i honestly dont think i would do band after high school first of all it takes up a lot of your time even though i love music and band idk if i can handle another life Quote
borchnork Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 yah, I know what you mean about Staying in Texas. It's really tempting because it's cheap, and TMEA offers like... 15 thousand dollars a year in scholarship money for kids who attend colleges in Texas. Quote
fourmalleteer Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 I'm currently in college, and decided to not do marching band for this semester, mostly to get adjusted to college life first. (And also considering the load my major requires). But, there are times where I really do wish I joined marching band, but I know I can still have my musical fix by taking private lessons and participating in other ensembles. Maybe, if I don't lose my chops, I'll try for drum corps over the summer. Quote
zackee Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 I want to Major in Music Performance and minor in Music Composition. Quote
Keyboard_Countessa Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 Well, I didn't try out for my college's marching band because they don't have a front ensemble, and my plan of taking private lessons and trying out for the concert band in the spring didn't work out because I couldn't get into the lessons class. But then I found out about a local-area indoor drumline organization, went to the audition camps and, in an odd twist of circumstances, ended up on the bass line. That's managed to serve my music needs quite nicely. Quote
barisaxy08 Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 when i graduate i am going to attempt to do a drum corp this summer...i want to see what that lifestyle is like. Quote
Fata1 Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 I doubt I'll do marching band in college but I'm up for concert band. Might try Drum Corps just to see what it's like. Quote
the_DRUM_MAJOR Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 im in longhorn band....its A BLAST! except the first couple of weeks were confusing since lhb has some twists in marching fundamentals Quote
Nancy08 Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Wow there are more people interested in composition than I would have thought. I'm DEFINATELY doing band in college. If everything works out perfectly I want to double (or triple) major in composition and engineering and/or architecture and/or just plain math. After I get my bachelor's degree I want to pursue my doctorate in composition, though I don't know how far I'll get. I just applied to UNT this weekend, and I'm pretty sure that's where I'll end up going at least for undergrad studies... Quote

Ditto with you on wanting to double (possibly triple) major. Me= Music Comp./Biology/ Possibly Music Education. 2. Engineering and architecture/math... scary!!!! 3. I applied to UNT as well this past week! YAY! What day did you sign up for for auditions? 4. Even though University of Michigan is my first choice, I'll probably end up at UNT for undergrad studies and then go to the UofM for my PHD, it's A LOT easier to get into UNT's composition program than Michigan's... they require a portfolio at the UofM of like... 4-7 pieces and recording that you have written, and currently I only have 2. 5. If you go to UNT, you hafta meet Dr. Joe Klein. HE'S AWESOME! He's the department chair of Music Composition at UNT. I'm trying to get a mentorship up there with a few of the composition professors, and he's helping me out to no end! Quote
Nancy08 Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 I actually haven't applied to the music school yet. Just the school itself. I'll probably sign up for the Feb 9th audition date, but idk yet. I'm thinking Rice or Northwestern for grad studies... So do you live near Denton? Cause for me it'd be quite a drive up there for a`mentorship, although I do want to get a private lesson with the bassoon teacher. Do you have any of your compositions loaded to this site? I'd love to hear them. Your email address didn't work before... Quote
borchnork Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 my email didn't work? that's extremely odd. And no, sorry I don't have any loaded onto this website... PM me your email, and I'll try that way. I live in Frisco... it's quite a drive out there still, but I think it might be worth it. Did you apply to the Honors College of UNT or just the regular university? Quote
mbui Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Currently in my second year of music ed. I started out my first two years of college studying Journalism, but I missed music so much during year two that I got my Associates in Journalism (Writing) instead and started all over to concentrate on getting my B.S. in music. I don't regret any of it. I'm also part of my school's percussion ensemble. Quote
