Is anyone else in serious pain after their first day of band camp? I can't even move without hurting somewhere!

So, is this phenemonon exclusive to new marchers, or is everyone in as much pain? No upperclassmen seemed to be walking around and wincing at every step...

I don't get hurt, tired, or feel pain during marching band. It must be a new marcher thing.

Just get a really good stretch in to start, and it won't hurt as much later.

Thing that I have learned, stretch. Before and after. You won't knot up when you stop moving. And don't go stait into AC or a dead stop. Slowly cool down and rest.

I had a scratchy throat from shouting our chant (I guess that's what you'd call it) for dismissal a million times and I was also just plain groggy from going to bed at 3AM and waking up at 6:30..I think the only time I've been sore from band was when I was a freshman and i wasn't used to marching at all

i have pain in my throat at times after giving commands lol

Just curious, what kind of commands do you give? Drum Majors at my school don't do anything like that.

i love watching clarinets start to get tired because their thumb hurts from holding up the clarinet, please, go switch places with any bellfront instrument, you will know what pain is

I feel great. I slept until 10 this morning. Oh wait... I wasn't at camp... I graduated...

Anyway, I'd usually have a little bit of a sore upper body during the first week of camp, then it would go away. I stretched well, I just hadn't used those muscles in that way in a while.

To drum majors getting hoarse - don't "yell." Instead think about projecting your voice. You'll be a lot louder and have more vocal stamina if you shout from your gut instead of your voice box. It's an air thing, kind of like belting when singing. You might already be doing all that, but if not - I'd give a shot. Hoarse drum majors are bad news.

I used to have saxes that would get tired standing at an attention...pretty funny...weak fishies.

I hate when trumpets complain when it's too heavy. *coughcough*

That's just sad. I play trumpet... and I always threaten the trumpets that I will go get them a mellophone AND some tenors to wear. Ha, I'd like to see that actually happen.
