At DCI San Antonio, Dan Potter nearly called them on their EXTREMELY Ascension-like show. I guess you could say the both vice versa. I have seen the Cascades show in '06, and it is Ascension like. It's a good show concept, I'll give it that I am in no way bashing anyone here, I'm just asking. If I offended you, I apologize. I just think (IMHO) that bands need to be original. rsb3 said: I dunno if I completely agree, although I do agree to a point. My band directors told me about a high school doing a Cavies show note for note... Now that I disagree with. But adding in some DCI music to your show doesn't bother me too much. I think at this point, marching band has evolved to a similar "look and feel" that DCI notorious for. Besides, DCI has had a huge impact on that evolution. But I agree with you for the most part. Come up with your own, original, marching show. Go right ahead and add a few DCI licks or even whole parts into your show, just don't let it overtake it and become the focus for your show! Continuing my above comments, I just think that marching bands should be original. I'm not saying that just because the Cavaliers did 007, doesn't mean that no one else can; I'm not meaning to incite that at all. I just think that playing an EXACT copy of a DCI book in marching band is lame. No disrespect to directors at all. I just know that all band directors have to be INCREDIBLY talented to do what they do - why not channel that creativity into developing an original show theme? I have seen two 4A bands this year copy almost VERBATUM (minus some cuts due to time restrictions) a DCI book, in case anyone is wondering (: Quote

Danpod Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 I cannot wait for the 4A State Contest to begin. Also, I cannot wait for the 4A State Contest to end so all of this stupid arrogance can go away. Quote
fooblykong Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 I'm not trying to come off as arrogant-- rather proud of what my band has accomplished over the last 4 months. Quote

fooblykong Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 all right then... in any case, I think that we as a band have made significant strides over the last few months and have an excellent shot at the top. However, I suppose that is up to the judges. Quote
Ern3sto09 Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Foobly. Dude. Just because we have gotten alot better means nothing. There can still be bands there that blow us out of the water. Hype doesn't count. We still have to earn it. If you truly felt confident, you would wait until after State to start bragging... Quote
Aka-Attack Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 So how 'bout them Cowboys? lol. I think The Colony is in the running for the top 3 personally and Azle could take it home. But then again, I have hardly seen any of the 4A/2A/1A shows. Quote

Winston Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 I have a question. It was debateing on who has the best brass line in 4A marching bands. Although wood winds are a part of the band their instrument is not made to project its sound like a brass instrument. I would like to hear some opinions. Quote
GenericWit Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 I don't think I've tried to isolate any brass section to listen to nor have I heard that many bands. That's a tough question. I know Sherman has a pretty good brass line. Quote
Donezo Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Friendswood has a pretty kick butt brass line. I haven't seen them this year, but they're probably still top notch. Quote
ddmwingz Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 being a brass player from centennial(trombone), thanks for the compliment. Quote

I especially like the entire minute of Keller's show where the woodwinds lay down. I wish Sherman had the ability to execute something like that. Or what about their minute long drum break that was nothing but visuals? That was a pretty intense show. Quote
