It would be nice if they could have a scoring system or something where bands that achieve a certain score at competition could go on to state. That would kind of destroy the competition though. Also, you'd have to have the same judges at each competition to make things fair. Quote

It's like, "I heard Poteet is very good 1, Frisco(hmm don't know much about them 25) I hafta say though that at some contests I feel like judges are just placing based on names as well. In the past two years I don't recall going to a competition and being 100% happy with the way things played out from the judges ideas. Quote
Drillz Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Just got back from Region. Our Sherman Marching Band got a first division. McKinney North and McKinney Boyd also got 1s. Mckinney and Denison both got 2s. Anyway I found out why Sherman and Poteet are split up this year in Area. It's because things would be more fair for the judges if the same two bands that always make state are divided giving other bands in the Area more of a chance to qualify for state. So now we get stuck in Area B with some serious competition! Quote
jd2012 Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 so now every band that was in the area C finals last time besides poteet has officially left to either 5A or tougher area B, wonderful Quote
SerialSleeper90 Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Yea I think whatever burden UIL lifted from area C is now in area B... Quote
bonepit06-07 Posted October 18, 2007 Author Posted October 18, 2007 I heard Area D will be taking 4 bands? Quote
whitewing09 Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 oh jeez thats gonna be tough Henderickson, Conally, Dripping Springs, Steele, and New Braunfels and only 4 spots?? Quote
Donezo Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Only one region in Area D has held a contest thus far. We'll know the number on Saturday. Quote
borchnork Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 God, I'm still shocked about Mckinney getting a two. Quote
the terminator Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 then again MCKinney has really been on the down since the opening of Boyd, took a lot of their people and after seeing their result at TOC when I actually predicted them about 8th I knew they were weak this year compared to the past, but did not expect a 2, thought would be a 1 1 2 Quote
GenericWit Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 So when do we actually find out how many bands they're taking? I heard someone (maybe it was you, Wang) say that they took 1 band to state for every 5 or something like that...? With it being area week right now, the nerves are really starting to kill me. I think once we get the closer goin' at tempo, we'll be set to put up a fight for a state spot (timing out still really scares me though; wouldn't that be tragic?). Quote
ddmwingz Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 they take 1 band per 5 to go to area. at the moment, it looks as though we have 20(as long as no bands pull out) Quote
borchnork Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I'm hoping that 5 can make it. After all, we have 31 bands, and I think of those 31 that have already had region, 20 have made 1's... all we need is 5 more!!! Quote
Fata1 Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 What's the list of bands that have to perform on Tuesday? Quote
borchnork Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Fata1 said: What's the list of bands that have to perform on Tuesday? It's region 7 right?? Let me search it.... Quote
Fata1 Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Region 5, I think. Definitely not Region 7 since we performed on Saturday. I can probably find it myself. I just wasn't sure if you knew off of the top of your head. Edit: As far as I could tell, Region 5 only has two 4A bands. Seguin and Birdville. Doesn't look like five bands will be advancing to Area from that Region. Quote

Uhm, I believe 5 is the region w/ birdville... here's the link: http://www.uilforms.com/regions/5/SCHEDULE...%20SCHEDULE.pdf So only 2 bands. Juan Seguin and Birdville, and both will prolly make a 1 Quote
Fata1 Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Yeah, Birdville and Seguin. The only 4A's on the list. On a side note, Region 5 is pretty tough. Quote
borchnork Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Fata1 said: On a side note, Region 5 is pretty tough. You mean like judges? or just the fact that it has Bell and Mansfield and all that jazz? Quote
Fata1 Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 All the bands. I mean, it's at least harder than Region 7 on an individual student level. Southwest was in Region 5 two years ago and only 5 kids in our middle school made Region. Then, last year, we moved to Region 7 and the middle school had tons of kids in Region. Quote
ddmwingz Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 the 20 bands going to area i mentioned earlier included ALL of the area B regions. 5 from r24, 3 from r25, 10 from r7, and i included the 2 from r5(birdville and seguin) because they take two bands from each region regardless of what rating they receive. so as long as nobody decides not to attend area, we will have 20 bands Quote
Fata1 Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 That's good. It makes Area B just a little less difficult. Quote
