ddmwingz Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 if by FC u mean frisco centennial, then somebody told you wrong. our top tempo is 172 Quote
borchnork Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Uhm, 172... and I think our drumline rushes it so we probably end up around 176 ish. no... we couldn't do 210. I (along with half of our band) would fall over dead halfway through the show. Quote

Ding! Ding! Your Out!" or something like that... lol. Quote
borchnork Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 haha. that would work. ALthough, I think I value my life at the moment. Quote
ddmwingz Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 think about how cool that would look if we went 210.....until ppl started falling over that is Quote
borchnork Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 we'd basically be flying through those curves in the follow the leader. Actually, if we could pull it off, the show would be extremely exciting going that fast. Quote
the terminator Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 We go at 150 for the waltz (La donna mobile) it feels so slow b/c it really is at 210 but there was no way we could get up that high so we settled at 150, in fact we are trying to push the tempo throughout the whole show by 4-8 counts this past week, and I got to admit it's a lot more fun Quote
the terminator Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 As for honor band right now we are working on the First Suite in Eb, I really like it, this might be for our winter concert. Right now our band has the nothing to lose attitude and I think it has really helped us Quote
GenericWit Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 210 isn't even marching tempo. It's jazz run tempo. Quote
ddmwingz Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 a jazz run deals with step size. not tempo. 210 is fast marching. 4 to 5 is pretty much jazz running. they are NOT the same thing Quote

You can tell they are all really dedicated to the band program. I think they're the State alternate this year too, which is AWESOME. Good job to everyone who made state! you went to channelview? alot of my best friends were in that band so i was at every CHS band concert haha. . I feel bad for the people Mr. Tate left when he come to GP but i'm so glad he is the asst. there now....he's so awesomeeeeeeeee. Quote

I noticed that you guys got dressed into your uniforms and pulled your instruments out for the prelims announcement... any particular reason why? I kinda just stood there a little on the confused side. oh yah. and good job!! hah, sorry almost left that out. we were preparing just in case if we had the first finals performance time, kinda paranoid about being late Quote

I've seen them jazz run at 210 though (not a band, mind you, a drum corp) so yeah... I do think they're linked in some cases. Quote

I was in Region 25 and made the 5A Symphonic Band! Anyway almost every single instrument has an exciting part! Also the song has 3 movements 1.Chaconne,2.Intermezzo,3.March.Gustav Holst's music is so awsome. Quote

Drillz Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Yeah I wasn't first chair, so I didn't get the Bass Clarinet solo in I think, the second movement!Oh well, it was still an awsome song! Quote

Anyway, Mr.Tate's last year was my junior year and we got kind of angry because he didn't wait one more year and actually told GP he was the assistant before he told us he was leaving. One of the GP people my friend knows texted him and told him what was going on and we were like, "WTF?!" It sucked a ton because was was awesooommmeee and actually gave me awesome clarinet solos for spring concert and spent time trying to get me to be more of an extrovert..haha. I spent my senior year with the former assistant and even though we got along, it was nothing like Mr.Tate. I wonder if he still repeats everything three times..... Quote

LD Bell is insane... I mean... if we could pull off some of the stuff that they've perfected... well.. jesus. Also would like to point out that I've never seen a slow jazz run either, to stress my point. Quote
Tx_Band_Marcher08 Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 210 is semi jazz run it's possible. Dickinson goes at 200 in our closer and 194 for the rest of the closer Quote
GenericWit Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 We go at 172 for our closer, and that's already insane. When we do fundamentals in class, we (since wind ensemble is filled with section leaders and upperclassmen, generally) marched at 200 once, and that was INSANE. I don't know how you guys can pull that off. That's REALLY impressive. Quote
Tx_Band_Marcher08 Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 It took us a lil' time to get it down but once you get going, you are really going =] Quote
borchnork Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 yah, honestly now 172 doesn't seem as fast as it used to! THANK GOD! although it makes marching at 80 seem like a drag. Quote
GenericWit Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 LOL Yeah I remember yesterday during band when we were working on the jazz run (which is why it hurts to get up) and then we went back to hip pivots, the 8 to 5 step felt like a 16 to 5. I think everyone overshot it and had to dramatically decrease step size after. Quote

Watch Star of Indiana 1991, they go 216 in their closer, and they are not jazz running for the most part. And no marching band could ever go 210 for an entire two minutes jazz running anywho. You have to take in the variable "x" for marching bands v. corps: Unathletic people. GenericWit said: Also would like to point out that I've never seen a slow jazz run either, to stress my point. I have, it's called a JAZZ WALK. What's slow running? WALKING. In fact, the jazz walk was my forward march ballad tempo style at Drum Corps this summer. PWNED MFCKR. I'm sorry I just hate people that think they know what their talking about. Quote marched at 200 once, and that was INSANE. I don't know how you guys can pull that off. That's REALLY impressive. It definately is impressive, but that's only what it says on the music. Again, take in the human variable. Drum majors tend to take higher velocity tempii and slow them WAYYYY down. Again, look at Dickinson; they are a POWERHOUSE. Not just anybody can take 100-sumthin people and go 196. /claps/. 200 isn't so bad. You just have to get your body to move that way. I mean, look; you thought jazz running was hard, but now it's not. All about the repitition. Quote
