JustAddWat3r Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 ive seen quite a few bands do the soulja boy as a part of thier show this year. i dont know what to think of it. lets see...bands who have soulja boy incorparated into thier show: Hebron Martin Keller Central(so i heard) and someone else i cant quite remember... any thoughts? Quote
the ridge emily Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 i say not unless ur show is about like modern music......like keller centrals is completely random and has nothing to do with the show!! Quote
selby Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 I think it felt more "at home" with Hebron given their show last year, but I don't really get the point. Quote
JustAddWat3r Posted October 24, 2007 Author Posted October 24, 2007 well hebron's show was titled "the wave" and it was kinda appropriate, but martin was kinda meh... so lewisville does it too? Quote
dtxtrmpt Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 i believe brazoswood also has a little bit in their show... Quote
SerialSleeper90 Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 yea lewisville's was kind of random... kind of. It wasn't random in the sense of pairing the dance with the music, but the whole transition from Imogen Heap to drum machine music was pretty random. Quote
JustAddWat3r Posted October 24, 2007 Author Posted October 24, 2007 wow...alot of ppl are playing imogen heap music this year too... Quote
ClarinetGlissandoInBlue Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 i didn't get to see them march their show, but the Brazoswood DMs did part of Soulja Boy for their salute at the LSP. Quote
SerialSleeper90 Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Haha yea Imogen Heap and the Soulja Boi dance seem to be pretty hot stuff this year in 5a. Quote
thePIXELelement Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Yeah we are doing "Have You Got It in You" by Imogen Heap arr. by Mr. Daniel Montoya ...A lot of bands are doing "Incantations" from Cirque du Soleil's Quidam, which ironically enough, is what we played last year also arr. by Mr. Montoya... Quote
french_horn_finatic Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 i wish our band could do something like that... we kinda do a wavey-dance thing... but not nearly as cool as solja boy Quote
Band Of Champions Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Yeah we (Martin) are doing it during "Hunting Wabbits." At first I wasn't sure how it would fit, but every crowd we get in front of gets a kick out of it. And I guess it kind of goes with the music. Quote

Yeah the crowd loved it when Lewisville did it...I guess it is more of a crowd pleaser? :S Quote
GenericWit Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I loved when Lewisville did it. Then again, I loved Lewisville's whole show. It's just a show that's fun to watch. I couldn't even focus on it critically to see marching fundamentals or really notice if the music was great or not. The show was just soooo interesting. Quote

dtxtrmpt Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 We dont ever dance. We have other visuals. But they are sparse. We have a visual kind of similar to Star of indiana 1991, their begining is close to the first part of our second movement. We do a visual on the first part of the trumpet ensemble. Last year, our director wanted alot of horn snaps. We had like 25 in the trumpet section. It was fun. I almost busted my lips a few times. (heres my random post for the day, I should be sleeping, but once again, I am procrastinating.) Quote

(heres my random post for the day, I should be sleeping, but once again, I am procrastinating.) I've always preferred quick/classy visuals. I never really liked all the fruity and 'cutesy' stuff. Like...a marching show is a marching show...it doesn't need balloons and fireworks. Some of our band booster parents once suggested wearing raincoats/goulashes and other ridiculous theater appliances...I'm glad our directors decided to let us keep our dignity. We've got part of the dance in our show, but it does increase the Visual (if done well) and GE of the show; so I'm all for it. Also...I mean, it is a popular dance right now; that's what society is into. As long as it doesn't become an obsession and a necessity to a marching show, I don't have too much of a problem with it. sax5warrior Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Mansfield SUMMIT also incorporated the Soulja Boy dance. 1 band doing it, is cool, but a 1000 bands, its insane and annoying. Hmm. I hate it. Quote
