just_a_texas_girl Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 So is everyone that is going to BOA SA ready?? Are you still making changes?? Or just cleaning?? GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! Quote
chickora Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 BOA SA should be interesting. I want to see if I can go there. Round Rock HS, is not good enough to compete at BOA...or so the directors think..... HE said Round Rock might next year though. Quote
just_a_texas_girl Posted October 29, 2007 Author Posted October 29, 2007 Chick.... It makes me sad to read that a director thinks his band is not good enough to compete. I feel that one way for bands to get better is by competition. If directors use the competition as a learning tool and not as means to an end (winning) then they have such a valuable opportunity to present to their students what the band's vision is/or can be. I think for a young band to see programs such as Marcus, Bell, Reagan, Churchill, The Woodlands, Brazoswood, etc....all having very differnent styles, yet effective in their own ways, it can only help a younger program grow. ***The bands above are just a quick example off the top of my head, if I did not mention your band, it doesn't mean you are not worthy of being mentioned, it just means I am too tired to think too much*** Quote
TRtrumpet Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 I'm most likely going to watch! Our band would never do BOA unfourtanetly. Quote
AverageMarcher Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 im TOTALLY psyched up!! our drill is getting cleaner and cleaner and the music is getting injected with more emotion every run-through. so basically, springs ready to compete and were gonna bring it hard core =D keep an ear out for that spring band sound! beachnutc2c Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 I miss going to BOA competitions... my Freshman year i went to Mansfield HS and I got to compete in BOA San Antonio... of course it was Mansfields first time in BOA so we dident do to great. but it was definetley a fun expierence... I never noticed how diffrent the life of a 5A band and that of a 4A were so diffrent until i moved lol Quote
itsstephenyo Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Joining us from (City, State) please welcome the (name of school) Marching band! (Band's) music includes the following, entitled (Show Title). Bands of America is proud to present in (prelimary, finals) performance, Drum Majors, (blank, blank, blank, etc...) and the (Name of school) Marching band! Ah, this introduction beats out the rest by far. Quote

Ah, this introduction beats out the rest by far. Or in Bowie's case: "Outdoor Performance Ensemble" hehe....I think that's awesome. And to the poster from earlier, that's not cool how Mr. Stein (Round Rock's BD) doesn't let Round Rock do BOA merely because he doesn't think they're good enough. Contests aren't about winning, and even if you're a band that can't win contests (which is definitely not the case with RR....they may not be BOA Finalist material but they're a very good band with a long tradition of excellence) BOA should be the last contest you should worry about not winning.....or even making finals.....because really (particulary with SA, since it's performed in a dome), it's more about the experience than placements. Bands of America is one of only a few contests that actually turns Band into a serious deal, drawing massive crowds and Marching Arts Enthusiasts into its walls to watch great bands perform....in most contests you have some parents come in, an announcer announces the their band in this boring monotonous slur, there's a light applause and a few 'yays', the band performs, then half the stands empty out as the next band comes in. At BOA, the kids march out into the field in front of 10,000 cheering fans in massive domes that reverberate their sound, a professional announcer excitedly introduces the band over a state-of-the-art sound system firing a surge of energy throughout the festival with each new band....even if they're the worst band in the competition, this is an unforgettable experience that shouldn't be denied these hardworking children if it can possibly be helped. itsstephenyo Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Haha, takigan, I ALMOST put that in an edit, but decided not to. You could also add "and the Angels Dance Team!" for SFA. Quote
