Ern3sto09 Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 What has me confused is how Sherman can be placed as 1st by one marching judge, and 6th by another... Either 4 judges really favor Sherman or 1 judge really dislikes Sherman Quote
Donezo Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Oh, I had no idea of any ranks. I was just listing who I heard had advanced. Quote
fooblykong Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 I can't believe it! Aside from us (Sherman) getting first in the Area, Birdville, suprisingly enough, is actually 1st alternate! Second place is Aledo, third is The Colony, and BARELY getting a spot, Centennial nabbed fourth. That was quite the competition. Quote

DefunctSim Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Don't worry, happened to us too. In prelims, apparently, we got something of a 1, a 2, another 1, a 3, and of course the russian judge gave us the ol' 10. that's how we got to 3rd... But I won't complain, at least they put us at 4th in finals, that's what really matters. Go Centennial! Quote
ddmwingz Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 congratz to all the bands who were there. it was one heck of a competition Quote

GenericWit Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Barely getting a spot? Excuse me. We got 3rd in prelims, and if I remember correctly, two judges had us as 1st. Not to argue over this, but... get your facts straight. Congrats to Sherman, Aledo, and the Colony Quote
Ern3sto09 Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Does anybody know that our head Director is only a Sophomore? This is his first time to go to state I believe. And for all of the other directors, this is their first year at Sherman. ...I wonder what its like to have some old dude as a band director who doesn't quote Family Guy everyday. Not that I am complaining Quote
GenericWit Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Our head band director turns 28 tomorrow... I mean today. It is midnight after all. We all group hugged him and gave him birthday cakes and whatnot. It was pretty awesome. I've never had an old director. Quote

Everyone was kinda expecting "Sherman, Birdville, Colony, and Aledo" in some kind of order. Congratulations. Best of wishes in this following week. Well see you next Saturday at your competition! And then on the 6th. Quote
Danpod Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Area B thread merged with Area Discussion. People, some of you need to sit down and have a slice of Humble Pie. I'm glad some of you are excited about making State and I'm happy for you but making threads about your Area just to say "WE WON!!!!!!!!" shows a lack of etiquette and class. Please don't make me close threads because I really don't want to. Congratulations to all who made State! Quote

And then on the 6th. I'm genuinely offended, and you would be, too. "BARELY" makes it sound as if we weasled our way in or we jumped eight spots. We actually moved down one spot from prelims to finals so.. we nowhere near "barely" made anything. And if you had seen us last year, you should've known that we were up and coming since in our... five whole years of existence, we've gone from being a new band to being a band that never once HASN'T made finals at our contests in the past few years. In fact, I think we actually beat birdville at a contest last year. I'm offended that it sounds as if we don't deserve the spot. We deserve it as much as everyone else. And... especially on this forum, I think more people were predicting us to make state than Birdville. For anyone Birdville kids reading this, I genuinely liked your show. Good job. This is our second year having a state year, and we worked our butts off as much as everyone else who made it... if not more because we're such a young school. Quote
ddmwingz Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 calm down marijana. no harm was meant. we really did come out of nowhere. making finals at every competition for the past two years has nothing to do with advancing to state in an area packed with amazing bands. it was a valid statement, especially considering this is the 5th year the school was open, we got the LAST spot, and we didnt have as good a finals performance as we did in prelims. oh, and to answer Mister Mims question, i go to centennial Quote
DefunctSim Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 I concur with the wings here. It's very impolite to to go on like that, especially when a moderator just had to approach our behavior... It was about a different subject, but still, it does deal with etiquette. What really matters is that we made it, and we safely say we will be worn to the bone this week for marching rehearsal. Hands down death to all of us... and then we host the CMF happily and cheerily! and then to San Antonio! Quote
AzNtRoMbOnEcHiCk Posted October 28, 2007 Author Posted October 28, 2007 i enjoyed many of the performances yesterday. i had recorded some bands on my camera while i was working crowd control. they are frisco, the colony, aledo, little elm and sherman. all of them are from prelims except aledo because my sister recorded that. later today or tomorrow, i will post them on youtube and myspace. He knows exactly what to expect from our show, what our sets are supposed to look like, how to define our style, etc., etc. So, off of that we can already assume he will be able to more precisely critique our show instead of a newcomer judge who is learning the ropes of our show. Has nothing to do with favor. Quote
SerialSleeper90 Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Man... I didn't get to watch ANYONE's show yesterday. Thankfully I'll be able to see Sherman, TC, and Aledo this upcoming weekend at CMF. Quote
borchnork Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 3rding david's statement. Look at the major predictions. We were placed either as alternate or fighting for our lives to get into the top four. What we did was AMAZING yes, but it was very unexpected. I also believe I mentioned that before finals started, how everybody's favored four performed in the first four slots. Quote

Yea I thought that was kinda odd. That must have been some odd dynamics for the finals. Man... I almost had a heart attack yesterday. Quote
ddmwingz Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 yea...ill second that wang. id never been so nervous that i felt like throwing up until yesterday Quote
borchnork Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 once they announced the first four bands I was standing there PRAYING that we didn't have to go after them. It would have just made EVERYTHING harder than it already was. I really liked what I saw of Joshua's show. It was really interesting, and took such a classical theme and made it very entertaining. I loved their little thing when they opened up their gloves and the palm of their hand's were orange! I actually jumped because it shocked me. Quote
__HBK__ Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 (to clarify things a bit) (and edited; sorry ") RESULTS FOR AREA B: 1- Sherman 2- Aledo 3- Colony 4- Centennial Alts(no particular order)- Birdville and Joshua Others that were in finals(no particular order)- Crowley, McKinney Boyd, Western Hills, McKinney North Quote
ddmwingz Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 If i remember correctly it was the colony-3, centennial-4. just wanna give credit where its due Quote
