just_a_texas_girl Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 I have been reading so much about predictions on this forum and bands.org about San Antonio, I am just curious about who everyone thinks the dark horses are. Dark horses can be big bands from the past that are "expected" to be great, but have not shown much style or flair this year, or they can be a band that is just waiting to explode on the scene. Personally, I think the top 5 or 6 will only be called by a very small margin....maybe 2-3 points that every note, every step and every formation will be critical. Quote
Danpod Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Dark Horses for Finals: Colleyville Heritage - They have a well-designed show that is of Finalist caliber. If their performance is up to par, not only could they crash the party but they could do very well too. Akins - The big sound is there and if they can march a clean performance, they might be able to get in. Quote
bluebellbrass07 Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 I don't really think there are any darkhorses to win this year. I think its pretty much between Bell and Marcus. I haven't seen the Woodlands show this year but I'm guessing they have a good shot too Quote
takigan Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Akins is a possibility....this band has come a long way in the past couple years (20 people predict them to make finals so far). umm.....Fossil Ridge? I've been hearing a thing or 2 about them lately (13 people predict them to make finals). Leander (21 people) Georgetown (17 people) Colleyville (42 people....would this really be a dark horse if 1 out of 7 people predicting are expecting them to make it? I think they've made it before too). ...those are a few potentials I think. Quote
just_a_texas_girl Posted October 29, 2007 Author Posted October 29, 2007 I don't disagree that Bell & Marcus will be in the top five, but to say they have 1st and 2nd locked is a bit of a stretch for me. I have seen Churchill, Reagan, Westfield, The Woodlands, Clearbrook, etc, and eventhough they were viewed much earlier in the season, we all have to agree that they have the bones to support a great show. Churchill's show is so moving it is hard to not get emotional watching it, and although Reagan was a bit disappointing in Houston, I hear they have made huge changes. The Woodlands have an amazing show this year and you can never count out Westfield or Clearbrook. I just have a feeling that this is a year for surprises. Whatever the outcome, I just hope the bands that are moving on to GN have a great showing, and if they don't perform "on" in San Antonio, they have two weeks to tweek and change. It is a great year for Texas bands and I sure hope one of them bring the eagle home. Quote
mbui Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 They've made Finals at BOA Regionals for years now. But, with not making Finals at BOA Houston (and still winning the Prelims Music caption), I'm really excited to see Brazoswood again and I hope they excel and get back into Finals at San Antonio. They have a GREAT show this year. I've seen them several times this year at BOA Houston, UIL Region 17 & USSBA State and the show just gets better and better. Their intro (from The Passion) is the most emotional opening statement of the season for me. Can't wait to see them. Quote
JBone Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Dark Horses to take it: Woodlands, Show Design is phenominal this year, plus they are known for peaking late, I'm excited to see if they can preform the show up to it's potential Bowie, Shaky last year, looking fairly solid this year, again, if they preform it to were it was designed to be, it's a winner Brazoswoods, Sound is awesome, Wow, bet they've been cleaning like mad, same as the other two, if they can pull the preformance, they can clench it Dark Horses for finals: Akins, there show is good, clean, they can make it Colleyville, they look real good this year Quote
bossman Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 AKINS!!! I wanna see it. I'm getting frustrated now. Quote
Donezo Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Roma is another dark horse. They barely missed Super Regional Finals in 2005 and they are gunning for a 4A state championship. I would love to see them sneak in. Quote
BassoonPadwan Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Hey thanks guys for thinking we can do it. It really means a lot. We're working hard, we'll try to make you guys proud! And help make Texas reagionals the best there are. =) As for dark horses, I think Georgetown is going to do farely well, and is good choice for a finals prediction. Quote
NittieGreen Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Too bad we (Westlake) did not come to BOA this year. i was crushed when i heard we were not coming. insted we went to duncanville (and won!) but i think we could be in the finals Quote
