Donezo Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 Yay Keller! It seems they have developed a habit of coming from behind in finals. Quote
JustAddWat3r Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 um, im pretty sure that ur prelims are wrong. what you have up there are performance order. Quote

If I am wrong, then why don't you go ahead and correct me with your list. That is what I got and if indeed you are right, then I apologize for my ignorance on that issue. Besides, some lame "prelim performance order" list or a "placement order prelim" list are not that important anyway, its Finals that counts, right? Quote

Westlake's win was an upset IMO. When you say "upset" do you mean undeserved or was an underdog? Just asking for clarification. Quote
radchad Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 I was shocked at just about every placing. I saw every band perform. Westlake deserved the win. Great sound. Awesome job. Yeah. Other than them and Bowie, I don't understand where everyone placed. x_x I must see different than judges. Props go out to: Westlake's musical performance. Mansfield's guard performance. Sache's show concept. Keller's 2 point jump to second. Quote

They were a band from Austin that hardly half the audience knew about and BAM! They beat out Keller and Wylie. I was sitting with Summit with Westlake right beside us and I could tell they were shocked about their win also judging by their puzzled faces, but Congratulations Westlake Quote

They are the only band that had been to 5A State this decade, they have gone to the Midwest Clinic twice, won Honor Band in 2A, 3A, and 4a, marched in The Rose Parade, and consistently have the most members in their region bands, and they have been a BOA Regional Finialist ever year since 1999. Not true. Keller, Pflugerville, and Midland have all advanced to 5A state this decade. Heck, Keller advanced last year when Westlake didn't. Quote
Minimaster Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 (edited) Oops, I'll just amend that by saying they are the only band to place in the top ten at State this decade. http://www.duncanville.k12.tx.us/band/2007%20Prelims.htm Westlake also placed first in prelims, so it wasn't exactly an upset at Finals. It wasn't an upset for you but for me it was, Westlake didn't seem that powerful in finals like in prelims, and I thought Wylie was going to run away with it. Thats my opinion and you have your opinion so I respect that. Edited November 5, 2007 by sax5warrior Quote

It had much more energy and the tempo was much more solid. props to WHS. Quote
NittieGreen Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 I would like to congratulate Keller for an awesome performance. I thought they would be the winners. Quote
SummitClarinet Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 It was neat how Summit made finals and made 5th place and we only have 111 winds and there were still all these big bands at the contest that were 2-3x our size. I liked the Rhapsody and Blues show. That was really neat, and it was probably my favorite. I'll post the captions awards when I get home from school. I don't think anybody has yet? Quote

radchad Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Just pointing this out... Summit only beat Mansfield by 5/10's of a point. That's how much there was between 5th and 9th place. Summit lost some luster from last year. Quote
radchad Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 80% of the placings, in my eyes, were complete crap. It just seemed like the judges took aspects into account that DO NOT matter at this kind of contest. They seemed to forget how hard people worked, and that it's about the performance. The judges actually told a few bands that THEIR DRILL is the reason they were placed so low. Um, excuse me. Since when do you give a band a bad placing because of drill? It's about how THEY EXECUTE AND PERFORM THE DRILL THAT IS GIVEN TO THEM. You should NEVER dock a band because of drill. However, this does not include bands whose music and drill do not match up. Major props to Sachse. They sounded fantastic in finals. Great trumpet sound. They looked really clean, too. They should have been in top 5. Major props to Mansfield. Probably the best performance of the night. Great sound. Clean. Very entertaining. They should be proud to end the season on that note. Quote

Just wondering because I heard the same thing but it was one of those I heard it from someone who heard it from someone else... and I figured it was just kids making excuses to make themselves feel better. But since you posted it, you must have a reliable source or something. And you say we lost some luster as if you were suprised. We basically got in split in half and our band director left for Wylie. Maybe it wasn't your intent, but it kind of felt as though you just wanted to put Summit down and wanted everyone else to read it.. I am almost 100% sure (you being a tech at Legacy and all) you knew from maybe Day 1 that Summit wouldn't be the same. But if this was in no way your intention then I am sorry. And last thing. About Mansfield having the best performance of the night.. I think you're just a littttle bit biased. You graduated from Mansfield last year right? Quote
