just_a_texas_girl Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 Hi Everyone, After yesterday, I was just wondering what everyone thought of where the Texas Bands will fall in Grand Nationals. What I mean by that, is who will make semis (or not) and who will make finals. Lets assume they each march a clean show...so I guess we are "predicting" via potential. I believe the following are the reps from Texas... Mabank Clear Brook L.D. Bell Ronald Reagan SFA The Woodlands I guess with judging all over the place, maybe grouping will be easier Quote
just_a_texas_girl Posted November 4, 2007 Author Posted November 4, 2007 My bad...when I looked at the list on bands.org, I missed them....so let's try this again.... Mabank Clear Brook L.D. Bell Ronald Reagan SFA The Woodlands Richland Quote
radchad Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Well, compare it to last year. Out of the 6 Texas bands that went, 4 made finals. All 6 made it to semis. That just goes to show you the talent here in Texas, especially put up against many bands that don't have the 8 hour rule. I think, basing it off of what I have seen this year, we can expect Bell, Richland, and Woodlands to do extremely well. I think we're looking at at least 4 in finals again. Quote
just_a_texas_girl Posted November 5, 2007 Author Posted November 5, 2007 I think leaving SFA & Reagan off that list is big miss...but JMHO Quote
itsstephenyo Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Bell, The Woodlands, SFA, Reagan, and Richland are pretty much locks for finals. All Tx bands are going to make semis. I hope. Quote
playfield Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 I'm new to the BOA scene and wanted to ask: How does a band get into the Grand Nationals? Is there some sort of qualification standard, or can they just enter? I just assumed that the top placements @ San Antonio would be going. Obviously not. Quote

The reason not a lot of Texas bands go is simply because they don't have enough money. EDIT: By the way, welcome to the BOA scene! Edited November 5, 2007 by the_n00b_trombonist Quote
Lustra.exe Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 It's also required that you attend at least one BOA Regional. Quote
Xenon Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 I would like to see an additional criteria added of having to have made Finals at at least one regional in the last 3 years. Quote

Taken from www.musicforall.org: "All events are open on a first-come, first-served basis; bands do not have to enroll in a Regional Championship to enroll in Grand Nationals." There is, however, a 90 band limit at Grand Nationals. Quote
bonepit06-07 Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 (edited) But werent there 94 bands last year? Band Of Champions Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 So which info is right? Do you have to have made finals in the past 3 years or do you not even need to attend a regional? Quote
Clarinot Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 I think the requirement of 3 years of finals was Xenon's suggestion, not the actual rule Quote
Band Of Champions Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Oh sorry I didn't see that. I guess I'm just too tired lol. Quote
takigan Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Mabank Clear Brook L.D. Bell Ronald Reagan SFA The Woodlands Richland Hmm.....first of all I believe all Texas bands will be in semi-finals except possibly Mabank (something about this band rings a bell somewhere...did they compete in an out-of-state regional recently or something?)..... I really think it's high time LD Bell won this thing. They've got the cleanliness.....they just need to pull off a theatric element with the same shock value as the white sheet from last year.....nothing in their current show has that kind of stopping power but their current show already has the element of a top 5 GN show. The Woodlands will make top 5....Considering the top 7 bands at SA got higher scores than the other Super Regional champions it wouldn't be unreasonable to predict Woodlands to get runner-up. I don't think that's going to happen, but it definitely would not be surprising.... SFA also has top 5 potential. They've been pretty quiet for the past 3 weeks....but their Houston Championship status definitely gives you the expectation they would have been top 4 or 5 at SA and thus will probably be top 10 at GN as well, possibly top 5. Reagan and Richland will almost certainly make finals....beyond that I don't know. Clear Brook will place in the top 20.....finals? possibly. I wouldn't be surprised if Texas gets the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place spots and the championship ends up going to some midwestern regular. There are politics even in Indy. Quote

You're probably thinking about Mansfield HS. They competed at the BOA St. Louis Super Regional last year. Quote
radchad Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Are you sure it's not a 90 Band MINIMUM for Grand Nationals? That's what I had always been under the impression of. Quote
radchad Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Btw, I'm rooting for Richland, Bell, and Woodlands. :] I have a question. Does anyone know why Churchill isn't going this year? Quote

BOA Grand Nationals is limited to 90 bands. http://www.musicforall.org/programs/gn/enrollment.aspx However, in the past if there are only a couple of more (like 92-95) bands signed up for Grand Nationals, rather than turn them down of such an incredible experience, BOA will more than likely accept them into the competition. They can always squeeze in a few more bands. Quote
Trumpet of Doom Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Yeah I read 92 off the back of my GN finals DVD, so i'm assuming it's correct. Quote
Band Of Champions Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I think this year is going to be a pretty dominant TX Grand National finals. Quote
itsstephenyo Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I'm saying at least 4, if not 5 Texas bands in GN Finals. We're going to dominate. Quote
