Donezo Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 (edited) Finalists: Aledo Friendswood Sherman Dickinson Roma Poteet Connally Vista Ridge Hendrickson Dripping Springs 9/10 for me in predictions. Not too bad. Poteet and Hendrickson were the top 2 in prelims. We should have full results shortly. Oh, and kudos to Area D for placing all 4 bands in finals! Edited November 6, 2007 by Donezo Quote
Serardian Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Wow, the predicted domination of Area D really happened! Quote
Xenon Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Be sure to check out my live reviews at http://live.txbands.com Edit: I won't be doing Finals as I'm pooped and just want to enjoy the rest of the day. But I will be posting Finals results on txblive. Quote

Donezo Posted November 7, 2007 Author Posted November 7, 2007 Wow! Top 4 within 4 rank points. That's hard core. Quote
Band Of Champions Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 (edited) The judges looked very inconsistent from those pre-lims results. Edited November 7, 2007 by Band Of Champions Quote
Donezo Posted November 7, 2007 Author Posted November 7, 2007 It is all over the place. This is probably the wildest rank spread I've seen in 4A prelims. No disrespect to my alma mater, but when the first place band has only one first place vote, there is a problem. Quote

Donezo Posted November 7, 2007 Author Posted November 7, 2007 (edited) I really think it was worse this year. Last time Poteet was first in prelims with three 1st's and two 2nd's and I think the other two 1st's went to 2nd place Friendswood. This time even the time was all over the place. I hate inconsistent judging. Especially when the scores turn out to resemble those of Roma, Azle, The Colony, or Centennial. Where two judges seem to agree while the third seems to be on drugs. Quote
Dynasty Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Just to clarify, on the scores... The first 3 are music and the last 2 are marching. Quote
borchnork Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 well if the last two are marching, then our results are a little off... Actually, more than a little. 9th and 20th??? they obviously had VERY opposing ideas. Mr. Kent seemed to like us as far as music goes. 11th place isn't too bad. I think the lower scores on music come simply off of our size and the difficulty our size causes for us to actually make noise in the Alamodome. Quote
the terminator Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 According to our directors who like to take trips to state every year said the sax quartet at the beginning was a little messed up b/c they turned it up to loud and you can hear the static from it, and their was a little phase at the beginning, is it true? Quote
borchnork Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 yah. we almost fell apart in the first movement. sets 1 through 12 for us was... scary. yup. after that it wasn't that bad... at least not 23RD place bad. Quote
the terminator Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I'm sorry we all at wakeland feel for you guys, a few of us were like saying that's so sad, but hey i'm sure u had fun at state, which is something I will never be able to experience b/c i don't have another chance Quote
borchnork Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 well, it was an enjoyable experience none the less. I"m just glad we went. Quote
JediSaxSolis Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Congrats to Poteet; I heard you guys had a great show. I was hoping Hendrickson would've placed higher; that band is deserving of many awards. Congratulations to Friendswood, as well. I'll get to talk to you guys this weekend at the Region 17 Jazz clinic/concert. Quote
Band Of Champions Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Dang, I want to see Poteet's show. I haven't seen them since like my freshmen year I think at Duncanville. And even then I don't think our band had the chance to see them. I just always hear great things about them. Quote
borchnork Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 ahh the Triangles. yes, there were quite a few of those there. =] Quote
Donezo Posted November 8, 2007 Author Posted November 8, 2007 So a band makes straight 2's at region marching contest, advances to state after some bizarre scoring at area, and then does not place last at SMBC. I have a problem with that. Quote
Donezo Posted November 8, 2007 Author Posted November 8, 2007 Seven Lakes. No disrespect to the band, but something clearly went wrong in the system along the way to the top. I think we need to get rid of those weird region/area advancement requirements and/or realign areas again. Quote
