they actually weren't THAT bad. If you hadn't told me, I probably wouldn't have thought they made a two.

their show though really bothered me in the fact that about 96% of the music was either a synthesizer or drumline. There was very little wind playing.

It sounded cool though, but I didn't see the drill because we were right after them in prelims.

I don't doubt that they weren't bad. It's not like they made a 4 at region. I'm just a bit disturbed that three judges can unanimously declare a band not worthy of advancement to area and then that band winds up 22nd at state. I don't think regions should be required to advance two bands to area. And I also think that under no circumstances should 2/3 of the bands at one area contest advance to state, especially one where only half of the bands in attendance made a 1 at region.

point taken.

I think the best way to handle that though would to be realign (again!!). They should attempt to relieve some of the overwhelmed areas (like B and D) and spread the playing field out a little more evenly for everybody.

well if the last two are marching, then our results are a little off... Actually, more than a little.

9th and 20th??? they obviously had VERY opposing ideas.

Mr. Kent seemed to like us as far as music goes. 11th place isn't too bad. I think the lower scores on music come simply off of our size and the difficulty our size causes for us to actually make noise in the Alamodome.

I just wanna let you know we (Dickinson) have 123 people in our band including color guard.. and we had the most 1st place votes in music... out of the whole contest. 2 in prelims and 1 and finals. Total of 3. Poteet had 2 first place votes in Muisc and they were both in finals. So as far as music goes.. size dosnt matter as much as you think, just takes alot more work.

well, I understand that. But of those 120 kids we have it breaks down to us only having about 80 or so winds. Of those 80 kids, about 30 of them don't play at all (and we actually have 3 kids marching on instruments they don't even play... I know only three people shouldn't make that big of a difference, but if we could have had them playing, our mellos and sousaphones would have been much more audible), so there's about 50 or fewer at times of us trying to make the same level of sound that Poteet has. I think that in a few year the 30 kids who weren't playing this year will be carrying the band nicely (because they were generally the underclassmen).

So yes, numbers and age is a big deal for us I think.

Anybody at the SMC knows how bad the PA system was.

It was horrible, especially if you were near an end zone.

I am not sure, but it appeared that when Connally advanced to Finals, The Colony started cheering, thinking they had advanced.

Yeah. A friend of mine in the Alamodome swore to me up and down that The Colony was in and Connally was out no matter what I told her.

yah, we were sitting right by Connally in the stands. They kinda stood there for a second or two... yah they cheered when they heard their name, but after all the results were called, you could see a few of them had a giant question mark over their heads.

I didn't even understand him when he started calling out numerous times for the Friendswood band's drum majors. It wasn't until one of our drum majors told me what the situation was that I understood it.

but thats where the hard work comes in... you have to get all of your band to play when your this size. It took us for ever to get everyone to play but what it think what helped us how are show has so many loud impacts in it and we have a great low brass to fill up that sound All but 2 of our Tubas are Juniors and the other 2 are seniors.. and we have an amazing trombone section as far as volume and sound goes. Trombones are a naturally loud instrument and when you have 9 great players your goin to get some sound.

yup. I hope our band begins to work on that aspect more and more, because I feel that we generally have the marching down (despite what the judges said).

Sadly, I won't be around to see it happen. -_-

According to our directors who like to take trips to state every year said the sax quartet at the beginning was a little messed up b/c they turned it up to loud and you can hear the static from it, and their was a little phase at the beginning, is it true?

Yes, the sax quartet at the beginning of Centennial's show was a big problem. During the entrance period, they kept testing the volume and the director next to me at the top of the stands kept calling for it to be turned up over and over again. All I kept thinking was that it was too loud even the first time they tested.

hey everyone...as a member of the sax quartet of centennial high i can tell you that something did go wrong...we had one of our assistant directors talking to our director up in the stands to check the volume and as xenon stated, he kept wanting it louder...our synth player kept turning up the volume but when the band started coming out onto the field the crowd nosie made it hard for our assitant to hear what the director wanted and then the call dropped  ...so then the assistant just said to turn all the mics up and everything ended up wayyyyyy to loud

That happens at TCGC State. The Colony and Connally are in the same division.

It's like "Southwest Emblem" or something like that.

LYDIA! I had the clarinet player you talked to during finals come up to me and tell me about how she met you! I WAS SOOOO MAD! I was about to actually run off the bus to the Sherman buses to try to find you, but I woulda gotten in trouble. =[

Sorry. =[ But I did call you like 3 times while we were there!

when the clarinet player told me she met you I was like "WHY DIDN'T YOU COME AND GET ME AND TELL ME WHERE SHE WAS?!?!!"

her response: "well, I didn't know where you were..."

my response: "uhm... I have a cell phone for a reason..."

anybody happen to kno

the site of the company

that were selling the

UIL merchandise??

For the T-shirts, patches, etc, it is: www.music-ts.com

And for the DVD's, it is www.mrvideoonline.com/uil.htm

I've been told by Music-T's themselves that the "Finalist" patches and that kind of stuff had to be returned to the company immediately after the event, so if anyone's looking for patches, the company is Southwest Emblem, and their number is (254) 442-2500.

yah, sorry got a little carried away. :(

anyways, who enjoyed standing in that INSANELY long line for merchandise? I missed the entire last block of bands because of it and had to run to our seats just to hear finals announcement.

That was crazy! There was seriously like a huge swarm of people around the merchandise and Jolesch picture booths every time I passed by, and it usually took at least one block of bands to get through the line. I know people who didn't even see most the bands who went after us in prelims because of the lines.
