ClaireAnnette07 Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 ahh okay. Good to know lol..thanks Ralph. See ya in government tomorrow morning Quote
Fata1 Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Apparently Aledo is playing Slavyanskaya, like us. Our director talked to their director at the TMEA convention and yesterday he said something about how we might do a large concert with Aledo's top band and our top band. It'd be interesting. Quote
JediSaxSolis Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 So far, our Honor Band program consists of: Fourth of July (march) Lincolnshire Posey (highlight) We're still sightreading to figure out our 3rd... it's possible we might play a Ticheli piece. Quote
ClaireAnnette07 Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 (edited) For our second concert in March (?), the UT Symphony is playing: -March from "Symphonic Metamorphosis" (I have no idea if i spelled that right..) -Blue Shades That's all I know so far Edited February 21, 2008 by ClaireAnnette07 Quote
jordo2108 Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 for marching we did "cityscapes" mixture of songs 07 uil state champs for TMEA we played commando march- barber shadow rituals-markowski concerto for percussion and winds-ziek o mangum mysterium rustic dance- grangier? <=== commisoned just for our band, world premire of the piece for band shortcut home-wilson strange humors- mackey for uil were playing commando march fiesta del paffico- nixon and i think were keeping strange in for our third peice Quote
borchnork Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 we're still deciding for our music... it's either: 1. Commando March: Barber 2. Je'La te (Spelling???)- Grantham, same guy who did Southern Harmony 3. Festive Overture- Shostakovich OR 1. Commando March- Barber 2. Lincolnshire Posie- Grainger 3. Je La Te (again, sp?)- Grantham It looks like we are going to do the second option, because that's what most of the kids are rooting for. Quote
jordo2108 Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 you will enjoy commando march its really good Quote
the terminator Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 yeah, it's nice but still lincolnshire posy is a little risky but I'm sure u can pull it off. As of right now, we are going 1. The Black Horse Troop March (sousa) 2. The Suite of Greek love songs (by some guy w/ an impossible last name) 3. Apollo Unleashed (ticheli) everyone loves Apollo but if it's not pretty good by middle of next week he'll scratch it and pick something else, but for a group that's half freshman this w/o a doubt the hardest piece they have ever played much harder than the two Holsts, and to think this is still a Grade 4!!! Quote
ClaireAnnette07 Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Our band director mentioned something to us about playing Lincolnshire Posey (Posy?) yesterday during class...I won't say anything for sure until I pick up my part in the music library lol Quote
borchnork Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 well, we have gotten parts to Lincolnshire officially. But he said it's still up in the air as to what exactly we are playing. But Mvmt. 5 of Lincolnshire isn't normal... it's cool, but yah, kinda freaky playing in 2.5/4 Quote
takigan Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 SHSU Wind Ensemble concert at Woodlands: College Park HS last Thursday: Fandangos - Sierra Postcards - Ticheli Were You There? - Lynch La Fiesta Mexicana - Reed March of the Belgian Parachuters - Leeman 3 'Grade 5' pieces, 60 minute program and we got all the music in mid-January so we only had 4 1/2 weeks to learn it (basically 11 2-hour rehearsals...we rehearse about half to 2/3s as often as a typical 5A band). When the band walked in to the dress rehearsal before the concert we had only ran through the 3rd movement of La Fiesta (which is a 20 minute long suite) 3 times. The ensemble had a good sound and held together, but there were an uncountable number of fracked notes and missed entrances....we had the ability to bring it together but our heads just weren't in the game for those 4 weeks. We're getting a new program on Monday and the next concert isn't until April so hopefully it'll be better then :/. Quote
borchnork Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 I love Postcard!!! It's like my favorite Ticheli piece EVER! Quote
Fata1 Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 We're still not sure if we're playing Red Line Tango. We only have three horns in our top band so us three our covering four parts. We did this last year, too, and it wasn't too bad but the third horn may be failing a class. If she does, that would leave two of us to cover four parts and that's not happening. If we don't end up playing Red Line Tango, I'm not sure what we'll play. With only two horns, I'm not sure if we'd be able to play Four Scottish Dances which was kind like our back up piece. Quote
jordo2108 Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 if anyone would like to hear my band play strange humors (poteet high school) go to john mackeys website go to www.ostimusic.com and then go to works and click strange humors and were the recording for the website =] check it out and let me know=] Quote
Dusty Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 we are playing four scottish dances for full orchestra its fun Quote

Yeah, lunch with the band nerd knothole gang is awesome. Edited February 26, 2008 by ftwdrummer Quote
the terminator Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 wow our band hasn't hit that level yet, we're still doing high grade 4's and lower 5's Quote
jordo2108 Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 so now that tmea is over were playing Semper Fidelis by Sousa Fiesta Del Paffico by Nixon Strange Humors- Mackey for uil im glad were playing fiesta i wish we could have done it for tmea as well but not enough time to get it in with the others and we changed march's but kept strange=]]] and for some reason i cant stop listening to O magnum mysterium Quote
jordo2108 Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 actually our director said today were going to try out new marches so we might or might not play sempers Quote
JediSaxSolis Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Alright, here's our HB schedule... I'm fairly sure it's final: 1. Fourth of July (March) 2. Lincolnshire Posy (Highlight) -- Mvmt 5? I think Mvmt 3 is even more confusing 3. Ticheli's Symphony No. 2 for band (Mvmt 1: Shooting Stars and Mvmt 3: Apollo Unleashed) We did play Postcard last year by Ticheli... and I can truthfully say I didn't like it one bit. I don't really care for his composition style that much. His percussive stuff is great, but overall the ensemble arrangement seems almost too contemporary for me. Quote
aloneintherapy Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Yesterday my band played a concert which consisted of Shepard's Hey, Music for Prague 1968, and School for Scandal. For the rest of concert season I think we're getting rid of Shepard's Hey, but we're not sure what we're replacing it with yet. Quote

ftwdrummer Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 We've finally finalized our program as: Lincolnshire Posy -Grainger Awayday -Gorb Rolling Thunder We're also having a concert a week from tonight, starting at 7 in our auditorium, if anyone in D/FW cares to come see us. Quote
