the terminator Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Does any other bands do something right before they go into a contest. As for us right before we head to warmup, we get into a big circle w/everyone and cross our hands and pray. It's really neat, and then just before we leave warmups we have this really cool chant Quote
Aegis Fang Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Trumpet section leader(s) takes out his mouthpiece, walks by his section and taps the mouthpiece of everyone in his section, good lucking every one. Kinda cool i think. Quote

Kinda cool i think. Thats cool. Until someone in your section gets strep As for pre-show rituals we just have the typical motivational speech from our director. Although, whenever were dismissed from rehearsal, usually by the drum major, we yell "Get it". Quote

Trumpet of Doom Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 I don't want to give away our pre-show thing so I won't tell you what its called, but. We generally do a prayer in a big circle for who ever wants to and then all sections break off and give their motivational speeches or whatever. Quote
the_DRUM_MAJOR Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 my former band did prayers and speeches, now, my band just plays texas fight and gets motivational speech from the band president. EVERYONE WATCH THE TEXAS VS. A&M GAME ON FRIDAY, YEA! Quote
urkadrums Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 I don't know what the band does, usually, because the pit is always in a completely different area from the time we get to a competition, or whatever. I know they have some motivational speech and they all put their hands on someone's shoulder and yell GEORGETOWN lol In percussion, we get the speeches, and in the pit we sing parts of the show with our pit director to get time and pump us up. Right before we perform, the battery clicks sticks with one another, and for this year, me and the other center marimba clicked our triangle beaters that we start out with. In the battery area, the percussion director does a shock/rim shot/tap on every instrument. Also, both percussion directors come by and give each battery/pit member the GHS drumline handshake. We have our own handshake, it's pretty sweet, but simple. Quote
Fata1 Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 We always have a video that this guy produces for us. He takes pictures and video clips of us at games and stuff and puts them together in a motivational video. There's usually a new video for each competition. We also have the usual speeches and stuff. crazyjakeup Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 i would eat a triple meat triple cheese what-a-burger for breakfast. then i would eat a ton of non-chocolate candy on the bus ride to the stadium(i shared most of it). then i would chug 2 20 oz. bottles of water as fast as i could before warm up... after the proformance i would brush my teeth and put on "street cloths" and hit on the other bands' cute woodwinds untill finals. then i would eat what ever our band gave us (usually chic-fil-a or jasons deli). next i would change into my uniform and eat more candy. i would have a lolly-pop that i would bring with me to warm ups and i would throw it away seconds before we went on (or when ever the BD noticed). then after the show i grabed my cell phone(which was in my hat) and read the text that my mother gives me after every proformance(it usually says something like "jacob that was a good show, but that fat chick with the flag was off the whole time")... then on the bus ride home we do shabooyas and sing stupid old love songs to our gfs on the phone... then when i get home i run straight to the bathroom and take a monster dump...lol Quote
ClarinetGlissandoInBlue Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 we have our individual rituals first (trumpets hold a prayer, ww section leader gives a speech....etc) then we warm-up..... before lining up, we gather around our director, and he gives us a short speech, followed by close your eyes and do anything you need to do. takigan Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 I remember in HS we did the "Eyes with pride" chant right before we exited warmup to go out to perform in competition.....most of you are probably familiar with it (it's pretty old-school) but it goes something like this: Drum Major: Attention Band! How are your FEET? Band: TOGETHER!!!! DM: Legs? Band: STRAIGHT!!!! DM: Shoulders? Band: DOWN!!! DM: Stomach? Band: IN!!! DM: Chin? Band: UP!!! DM: Eyes? Band: WITH PRIDE!!! DM: Eyes?! Band: WITH PRIDE!!!!!! DM: EYES?!!!! Band: WITH PRIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then we'd go out to perform, pumped as we could be.....I thought that was the coolest thing. Quote
actualgirltrombone Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 oh man, we have SO MANY, but most of them are individual ones. before we go out for our pre competition practice, we listen to music (usually bohemian rhapsody and soulja boy) over the gigantic band hall speakers. then, once we get there, we have section time before we warm up. most of the sections have a ritual then... the trombones just sit around and say dont suck. i love playing trombone =)) then, after warm up, we all gather around our director and he goes through the whole show with our eyes closed. then we set up. for me personally, i always have to touch plumes with my friend. a lot of people have little stuff like that. then, once we're lined up like IN THE TUNNEL, the trombones do the trombone handshake and mouthpiece toasts and stuff like that. lol and usually at the alamodome at least one person uses the bathrooms in the tunnel. When we do, it kinda catches a lot of people off guard because they don't really remember how it goes. Quote
