ClarinetGlissandoInBlue Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 So, region 19 is starting this tuesday/thursday, with chairs and Area qualification on saturday. Is everyone ready?? Clarinet people: how are you guys doing? what tempos are you taking for #37 and #10?? #37 is going to be around 88-90 for me and #10 will be around 100-108. the slow one will be at the marked tempo. Fata1 Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 District tryouts are on Tuesday for Fort Worth and then next Monday is the Phase 1 auditions for Region 7. I can't wait. Quote
ClarinetGlissandoInBlue Posted November 24, 2007 Author Posted November 24, 2007 how does your audition process work? In region 19, we have tuesday night for ALL clarinets, trumpets, flutes, percussion. thursday, is everyone else. This audition shows who made district and who made region. then, that saturday, we have chair auditions for region. top # of this audition will continue to area. so we have 2 parts. do you have three it sounds like? district, phase 1, and phase 2? Quote
Fata1 Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 We have the district auditions which are completely pathetic. The cuts are like the first line or so for each instrument. Then we have phase 1 for region which includes all instruments except for some of the really small ones. The top chairs from phase 1 and the small instruments that didn't attend go on to phase 2 about a week later and tryout for the region band placement. Quote
ClarinetGlissandoInBlue Posted November 24, 2007 Author Posted November 24, 2007 oh...haha. we have "district" and "phase 1" combined into one audition. so those cuts are usually about 3 easy lines. Quote

chickora Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 Haha, =\ I am not as good as you clarinetglissando. I am about the same tempo for the first one as you. The 2nd one about 86. Third one, I fluctuate throughout the piece due to my musicality. Quote
BassoonPadwan Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 Aww man. I can't wait to see how I do this year. I'm so excited. I've been pushing it really hard lately. I can't wait to see how the others have progressed as well. AHHH~! I get butterflies everytime I think about region. Quote

I'm a little worried about #37. lately, there have been random small issues that have arisen. idk. i'm not worrying about the first cut though, my teacher told me that i could take some liberties with musicality for that first audition however, i want to get first chair this year, and i haven't heard from my competition this year yet. JediSaxSolis Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 Anyone else Region 17? I've been practicing enough to get by, hopefully. I really don't like the whole region process, though. Sure, you can practice a lot, but judging is a whole different story. So I mean, take your pick. I'll stick my focus to jazz region. Quote
ClarinetGlissandoInBlue Posted November 27, 2007 Author Posted November 27, 2007 first etude at tempo! also replenished my supply of cigarette paper! Quote
borchnork Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 So I spent 8 hours on this stuff yesterday. BLEGH! I have two etudes pretty much down as good as their going to get, and just one more to go... Quote
Fata1 Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 I'm not doing too well now. I didn't practice on Saturday or Sunday and now my tone is completely screwed up. All I practiced today was warm-ups to try and get my lips used to playing again. Hopefully it'll be better by tomorrow for district. Quote
JustAddWat3r Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 sometimes i feel like i get worse when i practice. anyone else feel like that or am i just wierd? Quote
SerialSleeper90 Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 (edited) I completely understand. It frustrates me. I also wish we(top ensemble) were given a choice to participate. I just dont have that ambition to prove I'm better or whatever. That frustrates me, too. Etude #37... that frustrates me as well. This whole process is frustrating to me. dtxtrmpt Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 ugh... this muic is driving me crazy. trumpet piece #7 measure 17... i can not get that on beat. ive worked it for 30 minutes so far.... aghhhh Quote
borchnork Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 I like our lyrical piece because of the rubato. yup, I enjoy being able to slow down the parts I know I can't play correctly and argue it as "musical interpretation" =-] But Sigfrid-Karg Elert is a freak. I don't know what he was thinking when he wrote music for flute, but I swear he was high. Quote
dtxtrmpt Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 i miss slow pieces. us lucky trumpets dont have anything slow. well kinda for like 7 measures, and its not slow at all. my lips hurt. last audition for our hs top band is tomorow. ugh.... Quote

OMG I KNOW! i hate that piece. We had to do memory passoffs on that one last week. It was so ridiculous. I have to completley take that one apart over christmas break if i want to at least place decent at all-state auditions ): Quote
Fata1 Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Bleh. Fourth chair at district. I'm going to work myself to death before Monday's phase one region. I'm overall satisfied with the results except for the girl who got second chair. There's no way. I had her at fifth or sixth chair. Quote
takigan Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Low brass players who might be competing at 4A Region 9 tryouts on December 3rd at Huntsville HS.....I might be one of your judges so beware! lol Quote
