Fata1 Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Ninth chair in Region. I still made area. I took the last 4A spot. I felt bad because one of the seniors at our school really wanted to make state this year. He made area last year but didn't advance to state. This year, I tried out against him and beat him by one causing him to miss area by one chair. Oh well, it was close. I have some work to do if I'm gonna go to area and make state. Quote
borchnork Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 All these regions/district/pre-area things seem so different than what our region does... anybody care to explain? Quote
ClarinetGlissandoInBlue Posted December 10, 2007 Author Posted December 10, 2007 Area for us is gonna be on Jan. 5 at Lamar Univ, B-mont. Stupid.... every year, it's been at UH, a pretty centralized location, why change it this year??!?? Quote

borchnork Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 for us, we just have region, the top 2-4 chairs (depending on the instrument) go to area, and from area, the top few chairs go to state... there's no district or pre-area rounds at all. Quote

marcomac29 Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 I made third chair!!! pretty good considering the fact that my directors decided to put me in the second band... third chair horn in region 5 is good... but apparently not good enough for my school's top band. Quote

However, I am pretty sure they take like 7 or 8 horns from our region to 5A area. borchnork said: for us, we just have region, the top 2-4 chairs (depending on the instrument) go to area, and from area, the top few chairs go to state... there's no district or pre-area rounds at all. We have district but I think it's only because all the Fort Worth schools really used to suck and most of the kids couldn't get into region. Now there are really only three schools from Fort Worth that gets kids into the region band. I think the district band is there so that the kids who can't make region have a chance to be a part of something Edited December 10, 2007 by Fata1 Quote

Mannnn..somehow I lost what I just typed, and it was this BIG long explanation, too. Anyway, the reason why I think my old region did it (region 19) was because there weren't enough 4A students who made region and they needed people to advance, so they held pre-area auditions. At least, that's what I always assumed, since hardly any of us ever made region in the clarinet room. I advanced to 4A area 9th-11th grades, even though I technically only made region my junior year (alternate in 10th grade, thanks to a broken finger, but I was called in and did the concert & got the patch!). Basically, we just auditioned before the region seating/area qualification for 5A. It was pretty easy. I wish I could have done 4A my senior year..I could have advanced to area! I made region band as a senior as well, but I had to place in the top 12 for 5A area thanks to our school's new classification...and I got 16th. Myann.. Andy, they held area auditions at Lamar in January 2004 and in 2006. I went to 4A area in '04,'05 & '06, and UH was in '05 which leads me to believe that they switch the sites every year for Area F. I'll admit, UH was better....because Lamar STINKS and is far away. Have fun, and don't get lost! hehehe Edited December 10, 2007 by ClaireAnnette07 Quote

Yeah this is how we do it. They took 5 altos for region, and the top 3 went to area. I got 2nd, so I'm going to area on January 5th. Out of that, they only take the top 2 to state. I'm scared. I've been practicing like CRAZY. Seems like I'm just getting worse though. Quote

I know what you mean! I made Area and ever since, when i practice, i feel like im getting worse. My lesson teacher told me to completley put my region music away for a week, and then start it up again at half tempo. But not practicing it makes me feel like im falling behind! Quote
Fata1 Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 I made a breakdown of the region 7 contest: It doesn't include the ninth grade band. Quote

Thats exactly what my teacher said, but I'm slightly glad for the break. I woke up to morning after Region singing the mallet etude for drums. I maybe need a little time off. Quote
TRtrumpet Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 (edited) So is that something I should do too? Cause I've been practicing like non-stop, at full tempo and it's just messy and crappy and it's making me mad! It's not bad to put it away for a few days? (Area is January 5th for me!) I think it'd be to your advantage to leave it alone for a few days. Just forget about it for a week, then pick it up again. Quote

Thats what im doin, or going to TRY to do. If i cant restrain myself, im playing everything at half tempo, no faster. Yeah Area in January 5th for me as well. I think its the same for everyone? Anyone going to Area E at Judson ? : D Quote
TRtrumpet Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 It was so hard to restrain myself. It just feels so WRONG! Lol. Yeah, I guess it's January 5th for everyone. Mines at some place called Orange Grove. Quote
Fata1 Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 (edited) Yeah, January 5th for me in Midland, Texas. Not sure where, specifically, though. Edited December 13, 2007 by Fata1 Quote
TRtrumpet Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 I couldn't restrain myself... lol. But I practiced it REALLY REALLY slowly, and gradually increased. But never actually got to the full tempo. I fixed alot of things though, and I actually felt like I got somewhere after I was done! And my mom got me a lesson teacher! WHOO! I don't know how much it'll help with just 3 weeks before tryouts, but I'm sure it won't hurt. Quote
bonepit06-07 Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 i think area d is at judson as well Quote
Nancy08 Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 I thought Area D was in Waco? Maybe not, or maybe I'm not even in area D...no I think I am. Anyway we have a region orchestra audition in early nov and the very top slots (1-3ish depending on the instrument) make it on to area based on that. They can choose to go to region band or not. For those who don't there's the region band auditions the first fri/sat in dec. Fri is round 1 for big sections like flute, clar, etc, then round 2 is the next day for everyone. They take more to area from region band than orchestra usually... I made 1st at orchestra and advanced to area so you would think that would have taken the pressure off. But instead I freaked out at region band and got 5th ...but thats ok cause area's all that matters. I need to take up some better relaxation techniques. Oh and I definately agree with taking a week off. I didn't and now my music sucks...so I'm kinda doing it now. We'll see what happens I guess... Quote

I'll be there for tenor sax, anyone else here trying out for sax at Area F? Haha, both my parents went to LU. It can't be that bad, can it? Their degrees seem to be doing pretty well. Quote
Warfact Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Anybody here going to Abilene Christian Univ. January 5th for Area? That's where mine is. Quote
