aka757 Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Wow, actually it turns out that they did take 11. My friend who made area told me that the 2 people that supposedly didn't make area were at the area auditions (and one of 'em actually made state). Damnit, 2 away. Quote
borchnork Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Well, one of our saxes made first chair at area. From what I hear though, he was the only one to make state? Not sure if that's correct or not. Quote
ClarinetGlissandoInBlue Posted January 6, 2008 Author Posted January 6, 2008 (edited) Made it (First WW in school history..haha) Matt Barker made it again for trumpets. *Ralph* Region 19 Practices and Concert Friday, Jan.11 = 5-8PM Saturday, Jan.12 = concert at 5 at Pasadena High School again. JediSaxSolis Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Hmm... I seriously think ALL the area judges that judge for TMEA need to be college music professors who know what they're doing; the amount of extra pay would be worth it for the students. I'm not really bummed since I really didn't put that much effort into preparing my music this year, but some of my friends prepared beyond expectation and played the best in the room; however they ended up getting shafted because the judging was nothing but inconsistent. (At least for the Sax and Trombone rooms) This is exactly why I don't go overboard in preparing the state etudes, because judging is always a problem; always. If TMEA chairmans make an effort to get some credible judges in, then maybe I'll reconsider my practice habits for next year. Quote

Congrats on making state, Andy! Yay for not getting sick this year lol It sucks I can't make it to the region 19 band concert..I mean, I technically could, but I'd have to come down from Austin & gas is EXPEN$$$IVE. Kick major butt! =] Edited January 6, 2008 by ClaireAnnette07 Quote
b_sax_agent Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 we had 2 trumpets 1 tenor sax 1 flute 1 tuba 1 f. horn. I probably will make it next year. It would be nice being the first bari sax player to make state in my school... Quote

Fata1 Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Our school got in trumpet, one flute in the 4A band, one flute in the 5A band, and one bass clarinet. Our bari sax also came out first giving him the chance to record for state and one of our trombone players came out second and she also recorded for state. So overall, we got four in and two recorded so we'll find out about them later. Quote
borchnork Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 I think all we had was one Alto make it. I heard that everybody else was basically just one chair away though. Quote
dtxtrmpt Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 We had a tuba, 1 trombone, 1 trumpet, and 1 french horn make it. one of our oboes and a bass trombone taped. last year we had 3 make it, this year, we might have doubled that. Quote
AzNtRoMbOnEcHiCk Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 we had a tuba and two trombones (which are brothers). but overall we have 4 all-staters because our pianist made all-state jazz. i was one away from state. but its okay. i still have next year. Quote
the_DRUM_MAJOR Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 ahh! congratulations andy, and thanks for the information on the concert...I'm hoping they give you guys a good program Quote
TRtrumpet Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Ehh one chair away. I'm deppressed Maybe next year. Quote

Fata1 Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Found out that one of the two that taped made it from our school. So that means we got: 1 Flute in 5A 1 Flute in 4A 1 Trumpet in 4A 1 Bass Clarinet in 4A 1 Bari Sax in 4A Quote

Danpod Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Congrats to all who made All-State! I'll see you guys at the TMEA Convention next month. Quote
crazyjakeup Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 as far as i know rowlett (as i recall my brother saying) had 1 trumpet, 1 (or 2) flutes, 1 clarinet, 1 sax, and 1 french horn(there would have been two but the chick failed a class) who made state... Quote
b_sax_agent Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I'm trying to arrange the third Movemnt of Mahler syyphony 1 for band. it's hard. It doesn't help that it's a round. I can play the tenor sax cut on Slava better(and I'm a bari sax player) than out all state tenor player, only because I can flutter tounge on sax. and he makes Slava! sound too pretty. Quote

Flutter tongue? Impressive. We're actually playing that piece currently for our annual fundraiser concert. How do you go about flutter tonguing? "SLA-VA!" Quote
