borchnork Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 Solo Only this year. But I'll be doing Griffes "Poem" And I'm going to try to see if I can enter into another solo competition for Mozart's Concerto #1 in G Major just so I can have more critiques on my college audition music. Quote
MaverickBand15 Posted December 2, 2007 Author Posted December 2, 2007 I am playing Tambourin Chinois this year. Its only 2 mallets, but its challenging...i like the style of the piece. It's opposite of what I did last year. Quote
chickora Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 I don't know yet, but I'll find out next week. Joy. Quote
ddmwingz Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 i THINK im gonna try and pull off Blue Bells of Scotland. Quote

ClarinetGlissandoInBlue Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 the Mozart Clarinet Concerto. K622. Probably just movement one, since it's not on the virtuoso list. Quote

Trumpet Master Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Does anyone know of any Jazz solo pieces for trumpet? I would really love to do something that isn't classical for S&E Quote

Aka-Attack Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Sonata for Oboe and Piano by Paul Hindemith Quote
dtxtrmpt Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 so we looked at my ensemble and we dont like it. so we are trying to switch and play kanon, the canadian brass arrangment. the parts for french horn, tuba, and trombone are really easy. but i am in love with the trumpet part. im on second, but i like both parts. it sounds beautiful! Quote
urkadrums Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 I'm playing "Virginia Tate" by John Smadbeck, a four-mallet class 1 piece for marimba for S&E. It's 16 pages ahhhhh (I've only kind of learned/read through to page 5 lol), and difficult, but im glad there's a few repetitious parts, but oh it's tiring. and then im playing in an ensemble called "Katraterra" by Jim Casella, playing the marimba 1/china/woodblock part. I heard a recording of it, and it's jammin, lots of sweet tom/bongo/etc beats. Quote
TRtrumpet Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Anyone know any good, technical alto sax solos? Quote

From my experience I have to think that you're thinking of the Creston Concerto. I only say this because everytime I get to talking with Sax players about concertos, the Creston always seems to pop up. It's definitely one of the hardest solos on the list but you'd think a solo of that kind of reputation would be on the virtuoso list.....since it doesn't, then maybe it's not the Creston. Having heard it in recital I know it's a very awesome piece and I recommend it to any talented Sax player considering working it up. Quote
