BassoonPadwan Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Hello all in the music world! I'm searching around for bassoon cane: for cheap. I just started making reeds. It's my current obsession and it's all I've been able to think about the past couple of days. I had four pieces of GSP cane which I've effectly butchered as I begin this new exciting journey. Money doesn't come easy around my parts of town so I need to shop smart. I'm comparing prices and it looks like in the long run buying in bulk would be the best $$$ option in the long run. I've also looked on ebay to see if I could get some for really cheap: no dice. If anyone knows of some really inexpensive cane, do tell. It should also be noted that I'm not planning on playing on these reeds. I'm just trying to find the something I can practice on to get past the learning curve. Once I'm consistently putting out quality bassooning devices I'll move on up to the good schtuff. Oh yeahhh. Thanks to everybody in advance! and stay safe! Quote
nnelsonbsn Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 hey there I accidentally deleted a rather lengthy reply so, sorry if I leave out a few things on this try When I first started reed making I used the Albion GSP cane off of the forrestmusic website (about $3/piece, which is fairly standard for GSP cane). That didn't work out too well for me because then cane was so thick that it took a huge amount of time to get it into playing condition. Charles Double Reed has some fairly cheap cane, but I can't say how good it is as I've never used it. As for "the good schtuff", I would very highly suggest ordering from Craig Vandewater. You won't find him selling on any website but if you e-mail him you can get an order. I've been extremely happy with the cane I've gotten from him and until I get my own profiler/shaper I will continue ordering from him. It's $3/piece. If you want his e-mail just let me know, although you can probably find it on the web (try the IDRS forums or google-ing his name). Also, search on the Miller Marketing website, I think I've seen cane for around $2.75 or so and they carry plenty of merchants. Good luck on your reed making journey! Nick Quote
