Does anybody know Westwood's musical selections, particularly their first movement?

I couldn't recognize it and neither could my directors, but it sounded oddly familiar.

From what I can tell from the video I saw:

Vertigo

Mysterious Mountain - Symphony #2 - Alan Hovhaness

Vertigo - Bernard Herman

Arranged by Daniel Montoya Jr.

Don't forget Merry Mount - Howard Hanson.

Full reps for my 2008 shows are on my site, btw.

Fabulous. Vertigo is our freaking Ballad. Our entire show is Bernard Herman music.

I know they didn't copy us because our shows are happening simultaniously, but can I go off on a tangent? You can stop reading now if you get annoyed easily......

Methinks Hebron is a highly copied band as far as musical selections (and to a certain extent, visuals)

I know maybe all of our concepts haven't been 100% original, but cmon. DDR? That's Hebron. How many copycat shows have you seen since?

And as far as music, we played that stupid Bjork song that some other band (Sacshe maybe?) is playing again. After we played the Bartok symphony thing, the Woodlands played it in their Hide and Seek show. There's others too... And as far as visual theifery (haha is that a word?), The year after DDR, we saw Haltom do a variation of our visual at the very end of the DDR segment (basically the biggest moment of our show where the crowd cheers the loudest).

All I know if I were a director I'd have the most ballin-out-of-control shows ever. (As long as the band was well-off financially)

Okay tangent is over.

Andi, in response to the music copying thing, Hebron was certainly not on the front edge of anything. Dancer in the Dark by Bjork is an oft performed piece on the field. Lots of bands do it. Lots of drum corps do it. So Hebron was actually COPYING somebody. Same goes with our Fused show and Bela Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra. We actually jacked that show from Phantom Regiment, I believe. Some of the visuals and what not come straight from that drum corp's show.

But I gotta admit, the whole Haltom footwork DDR thing was really funny and highly suspicious. I remember Mr. D at area saying "Oh... They cheated!" I think there were like three or four bands with the same type of footwork aspect in their show at Area B 2006.

Oh wow, that's weird. I remember the Fused show because that was the same year we did "A Symphonic Metamorphosis" and OUR opener was Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra. When we heard you play it at the football game we were shocked!

Haha, it's always funny to hear someone play the same piece on the field. The absolute worst, though, was right after Pirates of the Caribbean came out... I don't know how many bands had that show. At least 10... at every competition.

I do remember my sophomore year, however. We played a piece by Shostakovich called October. I'd never heard this piece before and don't remember it being played on the field, ever. I could be very wrong, though. The year after we played it, I believe Coppell or Grapevine put it on the field. We were all lk, "wtf, mate?!"

Oh wow. I totally remember that show. With the purple monsters and the doors? The little music nerd in me was so happy that you guys busted out October and then the next year it seemed like everyone was playing it!

Haha, precisely! The concept of the show was really cool. I thought it was kinda like Monsters, Inc. in the sense that there were monsters behind doors. The guard costumes were outrageous, though. Gigantic purple dinosaur-looking things. Probably my favorite show I marched at Hebron.

Stephen... That's why I said in the original post "I know maybe all of our concepts haven't been 100% original..." The Bjork and Bartok don't bother me... But the DDR thing does. So many shows have been based around DDR since Music in Every Direction was in season. And I'm pretty sure we didn't steal that one from a corps. (In fact Saldana said he got the inspiration from the band lock-in lol!)

I've seen two shows this year that incorporate arrows. Just saying.

What shows have you seen that have been based on DDR since Music in Every Direction?

I see a LOT of shows every year, and I can't think of a single one. Yes, there are some with arrows, but I don't think I've seen a single DDR move other than from Hebron.

2 years ago i know AZLE did a DDR based show. it was a really big hit with the crowd. I remember seeing it at UTA marching festival

Two years ago was Hebron's DDR show. If Azle did one the same year, that wouldn't be a copy.

very true.

i wasn't even aware we were talking about people copying them. haha

i was just saying they did one too :]

Anywayyy.

Westfield's site shows them as doing UIL Region Marching.

Are they jumping back into UIL for certain?

From what I've heard, yes, their new director is taking them back to UIL and inside of the 8-hour rule.

I'm from spring our show this year is called "Urban Energy" which features the music of the contempary American composers Richard Danielpour, and Aaron Guidry. Our shows name comes from the music called "Urban Dances" and our visual expert is Wes Carwright who also works with L.D. Bell and Broken Arrow. I am very confident with our show this year for making it to UIL State again and also going further with this show than we did with RBW.

Yea, I gotta admit, when I first heard of the DDR theme, I was really skeptical. Thought it was gonna be cheesy and stupid. Saldana faked me out at the end of my senior year, though. Said they were gonna do some music by Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky and do a russian based show about revolutions. Then I come back and watch the show and see DDR on the field. But it was awesome!

I'm kinda sad that I've only seen Hebron this year. I wanna see more bands. Just don't have time to go to competitions.

I think the music actually is by Rochmoninoff. (sp?)

Yes, I stand corrected. The actual name of the piece is....

"Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini"

Composer: Sergei Rachmaninoff
