Seriously?

Wouldn't be surprised. The LD Bell Colorguard seems to outdo themselves every year in plain "wackiness". Impaling themselves with Flags, tattoos with strange pseudo-hieroglyphics that are supposed to have some interpretative meaning, mummification.....crazy stuff.

LD Bell usually has great music.

But I would love to see their band play more, instead of having 5 minutes of solos in the pit.

I sense some jealousy! I really enjoyed the I-Show, however, LD Bell was just in a completely different league.

I hope Richland does well this year. I hope to see you all in state finals and making North Texas proud!

Ugh.....even if L.D. Bell had 2 or 3 minutes in their overal show where hardly anything was moving on the field, their entire show from the timestart to the end of the show was over 11 minutes in length--longer than any other show in finals (over a minute for most of them) and I'm guessing longer than any other band at Grand Nationals (it's 2 minutes longer than The Woodlands and nearly 3 minutes longer than Carmel's show), they went over the alotted time limit and the show is one of the few (if not only) shows in existence that won't fit within Youtube's standard 10 minute limit, even with trimming. Plus they had 4 different endings not to mention a very involved preshow. So they didn't move alot.....but they still had a boatload of actual content to learn which makes up for the lack of kinetic energy they might have had in my opinion.

I absolutely agree.

Some people talk about their 2007 show like they don't know to march and play at the same time. That's what L.D. Bell has always been known for. Marching and playing. People griped that L.D. Bell wasn't artistic enough in the early 2000's with all their marching and playing. And now, people gripe that they didn't play enough this past year. You really can't win with some folks.

For me, hands down, L.D. Bell was the best sounding band at Grand Nationals. Yeah, Avon had "more notes/technical yada yada", but their sound nowhere matched the tone quality, balance, and intonation of L.D. Bell's. And...Bell's ensemble clarity, I can't get enough of it.

I've always thought that if you're bringing out the emotion people, you're doing something right.

I'm not jealous.

We do stuff differently. I just want to hear more of their great marching bandas an ensemble; rather than the pit and their greatest players.

Just because there are a lot of solos doesn't mean their band didn't play much as an ensemble. They played a lot as an ensemble, but I guess people don't realize that when they see a lot of solo action

Mike is absolutely right. Although they have changed styles drastically this decade, their presence on the field is a characteristic that few in this activity can match. People can argue about whether they did enough visually in the past or whether they do enough musically now but the fact remains that their accomplishments cannot be questioned.

be careful, one of those soloists is in my section now, and she's a good friend of mine. I loved her flute solo, and I don't take lightly to people taking indirect jabs at her.

I'm not insulting them for the last time.

Jesus christ.

Everyone's geting defensive over a comment that doesn't need to be defended.

Gah, it's like arguing with my sister.

The Woodlands has new uniforms this year. I haven't seen them but they have new ones.

Can't wait to see them. They're also marching contras this year.

Adding on to the discussion about L.D. Bell's show from earlier, they have added more information to their show website.
