takigan Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Yeah, I see what you mean (I got your PM btw). And not saying other schools using shows with continuity don't have breaks in them (they do, to give audiences a chance to clap just as much as it gives the players a break from running around the field), it's that kind of show. actualgirltrombone Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Lol, Cedar Park definately has a defined opener, ballad, and closer. Always have. We just do the transitions REALLY FAST so it seems continuous =) Quote
MaverickBand15 Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 McNeil's show finally got a name...haha took the directors awhile. Anyway its called, "Made in America" Quote
takigan Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Sam Houston just started their new show (I say 'their' since I'm not doing Marching Band this semester). I didn't know (and I don't think the director realized this either) that the 4 show selections we're doing for our 2 shows actually fit together into a theme.....The 4 songs are: "Boys and Girls Together" "Living in Heat" "Open Up Wide" and "(Let's) Get it On" ....no joke. Quote
Salas Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 There was a band from the valley a few years ago that did 4'33 as well (Edinburg North?). They started their show with something crazy like 48 counts of silent drill. UGH! It was Harlingen South in 2005. Quote

Salas Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Why the "UGH!"? Just curious... The "UGH" was meant more as a sigh. It irks me when people confuse one school with another in South Texas. Quote

Those RGV bands are all the same! j/k I actually respect all the things that all the bands down in South Texas are doing, especially with the limited resources that they have to work with. I just couldn't find my program from San Antonio for that year to be able to confirm. Quote

treyj Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 AH we ALMOST have all our show on the field. we have a little bit of the closer left to get on there. we are playing the entire thing tomorrow against coppell though. timed it is 7 minutes and 44 seconds cutting it pretty close haha but everything isn't full speed yet so we'll have more wiggle room in a week or two :] so excited Quote
Xenon Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Yeah, Youngblood has been having problems getting drill to Duncanville too; he probably has another 20 sets to give them. He only gave them the first 3 sets of the closer on Monday. Apparently, he was skateboarding and fell in some way that really busted up his knee and put him in the hospital for a day or two and he was pretty out of it for a few days because of the pain killers. I hadn't heard that about Bell, but I haven't been over there since August. Last year, they kept re-writing the pre-show and beginning of the opener until they finally just took them out completely. Quote
ftwdrummer Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Apparently, Paschal got really lucky, then...we have all our closer drill (got it at the start of the week, I believe). We're redrawing the last set, but other than that, we're fine. Hopefully, we'll have finished learning the first half of the closer by tomorrow (depending on how much time we take to work on memorization in rehearsal this afternoon), and should have all the closer on the field by BOA next week. takigan Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 12 years in Hurst, 9 at TCU and 5+ years of college.....the man's in his 40s, it'd be an interesting story to hear . Quote
titancoaster Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 yeah our drill has had some major rewrites, but it has been alot better than last year, and really good considering its a new drill writer. We our currently learning the fourth movement (closer) but we wont preform it until atleast westlake, for USSBA hendrickson and BOA Arlington we will only do the first three movements Quote
Nancy08 Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 So when are you getting drill for the closer? I hope you guys have some by Arlington cause that might be my last chance to see yall perform, at least at competition. Quote
lhstrumpet Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 We don't know. Best case scenario is we have it by Tuesday so we learn it that day. Quote
longhornsax Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 We don't know. Best case scenario is we have it by Tuesday so we learn it that day. so do you guys plan on adding the solo to ride? (Enjoyed the show last night by the way!) Quote
treblemaker Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 so do you guys plan on adding the solo to ride? (Enjoyed the show last night by the way!) Heck yes! The solo is beastly. At the game we only played the last chunk of Ride and the solo is earlier. Also we need to get our tempo up so our soloist can actually play it. HAHA. Ya'lls show was good too! Quote
JustAddWat3r Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 this is why i love the fact that our director writes our drill Quote
treyj Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 We don't know. Best case scenario is we have it by Tuesday so we learn it that day. we still don't have all of our closer on the field. it isn't because of our drill writer though hes actually been great with getting stuff in everyday. were almost there though! treblemaker Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 I am making this post to apologize for things I said about our drill writer that were my opinion and not that of my band program. I am truly sorry for any misinterpreted information from my posts. I am the first person to admit I have made some mistakes. In saying that I made a pretty dumb one saying what I did and did not realize the repercussions that would happen because of it. I try very hard to maintain a good image and represent my band well. I only hope that you do not judge my band negatively based on things I may have said on here. The other students in my band deserve that chance and not have it smudged by me. I take the sole blame for my actions and no one else. I am doing my best to make up for what I have done and hope that my apology is accepted. Thank You, Lindsey Quote
