That's great! I've always wanted to do a show non-stop beginning to end with no breaks. That's got to be challenging though! Quote
ftwdrummer Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I had an idea for a seamless show once upon a time...basically, it was a slight reworking of "Blue Shades"...the whole thing, not just the opening 66 bars and everything after the slow section like everyone else does (IMHO, the slow section in that's the best part). Ah well, just a random idea. And it only really works if your uniforms are blue (not, for instance, purple...like ours). Quote
the terminator Posted April 24, 2008 Author Posted April 24, 2008 i wouldn't want a whole show, but still I mean I guess it's doable, I have marched 3 years now, but problem is we have 75 out of 150 winds that are freshman, so not happening Quote
titancoaster Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Well this year NB Canyon marched the Ascension, the full piece, it was cool to see a seamless show, but it wasnt as good as poeple think it would be, because as with concerts or marching show you hear mulitple, different themes among the pieces, but with only one piece you were exposed to a lot less literature Quote
ftwdrummer Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 So 'Nova apparently told a group that did a mini-gig on Tuesday that the movie we're doing music from (maybe) is "Signs." I personally have issues with M. Night Shymalan, just in general (Sixth Sense was cool, his script for Stuart Little was cool...everything else of his that I've seen is just kinda blah). Quote

Signs scares me... I hate aliens. lol. But the music to that is actually pretty cool. I think it'd make for an interesting show. Quote

Is it the group that was at the Bass Hall? Signs would be cool but there are better movies. I'm not sure what the music is like. I haven't seen since I started paying attention to movie music. Quote

I think Princeton did Signs 2 or 3 years ago. Overall it works, but it is guaranteed to be pretty dark and a bit creepy. Quote

Nope...the school board asked 'Nova for a group to play at the latest board meeting (some teacher's retirement or something), so he put this group together...told them about it at the gig, apparently... titancoaster Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 The audition packets for drum major just came out today, and in the packet is a recording of next years opener, and WOW it is really cool. While i will not divulge any details (sry) i will say its is very different from our show this year, and IT FREAKING ROCKS! Quote
the terminator Posted April 30, 2008 Author Posted April 30, 2008 but your a senior, right? for us we have a lot of future sophomores that want to try out Quote
titancoaster Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 In our band of all the drum major canidates there are half smores and half juniors, its kind of odd, as last year i was the only smore to audition Quote
the terminator Posted May 3, 2008 Author Posted May 3, 2008 (edited) OMG don't get me started on drum major tryouts it's almost all future soph. the problem I have is that none of them are leader material, and some are frankly too quiet, and it's just that it doesn't work out. I really think we need future senior to do it b/c we have too many soph. that have no rank in the band trying out, not trying to be mean but I really don't know Edited May 3, 2008 by the terminator Quote
titancoaster Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 i think our canidate pool is very strong this year, and i believe that almost all of our possible drum major canidates can do really well Quote
b_sax_agent Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 with ours, I can see all of them making it. Which can be a good thing. Quote
ftwdrummer Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Same with ours...there are nine people trying out, including the three from last year...so basically, we're probably going to have the same drum majors as last year (not a bad thing...we did win best drum majors at one of our contests)... There's one guy though...incoming junior, about 6' 6"...we've been friends since middle school...I'm kinda hoping for him to get one of the spots, if for no other reason than to save us having to lug a third podium. Mmm... the whole DM speculation is already starting? ;P Don't know too much about the show... but it will be an awesome state year; guaranteed. Looking forward to seeing you all at contests. Quote
MaverickBand15 Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 We have like 6 DM candidates, and 2 of them are not respected by the band, 1 of them is power hungry, 1 of them skips classes and almost fails...that leaves 2...idk who our third one is going to be, that is a scary though. Quote

I'm not sure the title but our show is essentially Enigma Variations. I've heard a lot about it having to do with like... Pictures? of people (obviously being Elgar's friends that the song is based). There's a bunch of really interesting inside things that I'll lay low for now, but the 2nd and 5th movements of our show both go 180 and I heard that mvmt. three or something is a woodwind quintet the ENTIRE time... and we have a new music arranger... I'm not sure who it is though. Good luck as enigma is certainly not the easiest piece. We played 6 of the movements for UIL and got 1's, and we are adding some more for recordings. Quote
sax5warrior Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 ftwdrummer said: Same with ours...there are nine people trying out Wow, all of you are really lucky. I had to compete with 29 other people for the DM job. yeaaaaaahh... Quote

Hmmm, pictures+ enigma variations =Connally 2007...i mean Frisco Centennial 2008 lol, just messing with you, but enigma is a tough one to get the judges to like your interpretation, all of our music judges had completly different ways we should have done it, gl to you Quote
Xenon Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 I was actually thinking more like physical pictures as props, not Pictures at an Exhibition. More like Coppell 2002 than Connally 2007. Quote
the terminator Posted May 10, 2008 Author Posted May 10, 2008 we got up to 200 total now, maybe a few more to join soon, it's going to be fun Quote
titancoaster Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 Our numbers are going to go up some, mostly through color gaurd, but the numbers are definantly being distrubuted differently, with a decrease in the number of ww, and a large increase in low brass!!! Im so excited about the wall of sound we will hopefully be able to produce Quote
