well I was hoping more than 8 people would vote...these forums really are dead

WHOA! It's been quite I awhile since I've been on this site. Incidentally, whenever there's a composition contest next time, I'd like to enter.

The etude was the roughest, I thought, but had some good potential. The harmonies are interesting, but they don't flow quite well. Also, it seems like it was a bit bass heavy, with the left hand just roaming around the lower end of the piano - I'd suggest moving around a bit to get some different colors of the keyboard.

The 2nd mvt of pitch black was really good - I was just confused on instrumenation - marching band and strings and chorus? Anyway, it certainly was an advanced piece, and flows very nicely.

What really stole my heart, though, was A Weaver's Tale. Very beautiful, simple, even plaintive. It was very Copland-esque, and after seeing that it was a tribute to a lost friend, it seems a very fitting one.

Well done, all!

Hey, thanks for actually leaving feedback! The instrumentation was just brass and chorus, no strings though. Along with some pit instruments. The chorus is meant to be played on a synth (since electronics will be allowed in drum corps in 09.) But I have made quite a bit of changes to it since I subitted it here.

Feel free to start a contest any time you like. I'm really busy with school all the time and I would do them more often but I just don't have time.

Funny story about that Etude... I never intended it to be an actual song. I just kinda put notes on a page based off of an essay I had to write. I just took the letters that were in the musical alphabet and kinda threw them on the page. I have heard that I have a lot of different ideas that could be developed into their own songs, which I'm tempted to do.
