John Mackey just announced on another forum that he is moving from LA to Texas.

I've said before -- on the Yellow Board, and on my blog -- that I wouldn't have a career if it weren't for bands in Texas. The number of performances (great performances, in fact) I've had in Texas has been amazing, and made it possible for me to make a living as a composer.

Thanks to the performances at TMEA over each of the past four years, and the addition of two of my pieces to the PML, the number of performances with high school bands in Texas keeps increasing. Just a few weeks ago, Cheryl Floyd's band at Hill Country Middle School in Austin premiered my first piece for young band (and they played the heck out of it). It's really incredible how Texas bands have treated me.

I want to be closer to the action. I want to be able to work with more of these bands in person.

So I'm moving to Texas -- Austin, specifically. I'm moving this summer. I should be settled by the start of the school year, and I can't wait.

I mean, I'm not so excited about leaving behind the weather in LA, but I'm hoping they'll let me bring that with me. (It's 71 degrees here today -- but 93 in Austin. Ack! Does one ever get used to the Texas summers?)

See you soon!

Perhaps I should have chosen a stealthier screen name.

But then we wouldn't know who to go nuts over like a bunch of crazy, sixteen year old girls.

I was in the top band at Longhorn music camp and he so came to hear us play. We loved your song by the way. It was tons of fun to play.

I listened to the webcast of that performance. It was AWESOME. I can't wait to get a copy of that recording!

Awesome! Glad we did it justice.

I really wish we got a recording of that concert, but LMC never sells them. I know they make them though. Someone put it on youtube, but it's not to good of quality. You can't hear the awesome sax parts :(

Don't worry; I'll post that recording on my website as soon as I receive it.
