borchnork Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 (edited) Whatever 5A band is playing J'ai ete au bal, I greatly admire them. That was on our UIL program, and that piece is NOT friendly for us woodwinds at the end. I'm also impressed to see a 3A band playing March Opus 99. That's a rather difficult song to play as well. OH! AND YAY!!! Somebody's playing Lincolnshire Posy! That's like my FAVORITE band piece EVER! Edited July 6, 2008 by borchnork Quote

That's why I wasn't recognizing a certain band's program. I was going to ask about it... Quote
b_sax_agent Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 that's a lot of music for Prague. and Symphonic Metamorphosis. Oh well. Quote

A Middle School Band doing "Strange Humors"? I imagine it's a watered down version like they do with some pieces. Quote
treblemaker Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Or maybe they are good enough to play the original. :] You never know these days. Quote

It wouldn't really surprise me if it were the real version. I bet some of these honor band competing bands can play certain grade 4 pieces. Quote
b_sax_agent Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 we played a grade 5 piece in middle school. A grade 4 and a grade 3. A middle school playing a grade 4 piece isn't that surprising at all. Quote
Xenon Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 Updated the 3A programs with a band playing: Bullets & Bayonets March - John Phillip Sousa Prelude, Siciliano, and Ronda - Malcolm Arnold In the Center Ring - Robert Sheldon Quote

Yes, you can sit in on any of the listenings. Each of the classifications will be going on at the same time in different rooms. The last time I attended (2 years ago) the listenings were upstairs in the meeting rooms. They'll be starting in the morning, although I'm not sure exactly when. Quote
dmcoogs Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 http://texasbandmasters.org/conventions/2008/showEvents1.cfm that is the website for the schedule...im guessing it is one of the first things on the schedule going on from 8:30 am-noon before registration? is it open to the public or anything? I mean I am registered for TBA but registration isnt until after the honor band listenings, I guessing? corrections, anyone? Quote
Xenon Posted July 19, 2008 Author Posted July 19, 2008 Yes, it is open to the public. No registration reuired. Quote
