I lived in Texas my freshman year, but I didn't try out for region then. I moved away, and came back to Texas a few months ago. I'm a senior now, so I hope I'll do well. Texas is a lot different than Georgia.

I love region. :]

I heart hipocritical, lying band directors, who tell you if you do well at region that you have a good chance of moving up to first band. But then when you do well and you beat everyone but like two people, jack shiii happens.

I lucked out. They actually picked a piece I worked on in the spring. I didn't work on it a lot, but its nice getting a little head start =)

I'm hoping to make at least Area this year.

Quick word on the Oboe stuff:

Ferling No. 17 was a selection used during my Junior year, I think. Most students play this lyrical piece way too loud. If you can control your dynamics in No. 17, you'll make a nice impression on the judges.

My lessons teacher and I had been working random pieces out of the book and one of them turned out to be an actual audition piece. Unfortunately, it was the easy one. Oh well, I've got a few months.

yeah, I had been working on the second trumpet etude for awhile now so I have all but two lines down pretty well, but I think the first etude will take me awhile to learn, there are sooo many trills

two guys that made state said I could make it this year.

I just have to practice my butt off when I get home from florida...

Good luck to you. B)

The area level for sax is tough. Some of the judges last year looked for phrasing, while some looked mainly for technical aspects of the piece.

Heh, I was wondering if I was the only one that had seen one of the pieces before. I was going to pick one of them for Solo&Ensemble when I was in Georgia, but I chose something else and my friend picked it instead. It's a shame I didn't stick with that one, but it's the easiest one anyway...

UGH! I'm glad I got out when I did.

TWO Karg-Elert ETUDES in ONE audition!?!?!?!?! That's not nice. That could technically be labeled as cruel and unusual punishment. Especially that last etude. We played that my sophomore year for our high school audition music. The feel is all screwy and the notes just don't lay well as far as fingerings.

Good luck to all the flute players this year!

i haven't gotten my etude book yet.

so i dont know what the bass trombone etudes are like.

but hopefully, i can repeat last year and make area.

and maybe state.. its just gonna take alot of work.

but i have my all region jazz etudes but i suck at jazz.

so haha. yep.

Etudes are just soooo boring. You cant make them your own, and you really cant add your own kind of musicality. You just play whats on the page, cause thats what the judges want to hear. Thats why i like Solo and Ensemble much more!

I'm just excited there are no two pagers for flutes this year. They are usually so repetitive. ugh.

Don't let that 3rd etude trick you. It's extremely difficult because the feel of the beat is always on the "uh's" of the 16th notes, and it doesn't lay well fingering wise on the instrument.

I'm really enjoying the low clarinet music this year. I like the fact that its not just straight slurred 16th notes, there's still a lot of 16th notes but more articulation. And the ballad has great dynamic changes. I can actually make music out of this years pieces.

I got a chance to look at the saxophone etudes today.

not at all surprised be the choices.

predicted one actually.

don't look too difficult.

can't wait to start playin em!

you can make the etudes your own. do what's on the page and more.

Rubato at the end of etudes, in the lyrical etude, you can do so much with the etudes.

I personally think the judges want to see what the preformer can do with the etude.
