Danpod Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Folks, the season is coming to a close! The push for World Championships next week is on. Here's your top 12, per last night's results at the Southeastern Championships: 1. Blue Devils 2. The Cavaliers 3. Phantom Regiment 4. Carolina Crown 5. The Cadets 6. Bluecoats 7. Santa Clara Vanguard 8. Blue Knights 9. Blue Stars 10. Boston Crusaders 11. Glassmen 12. Crossmen Here's what to watch for this week: - DCI Eastern Classic in Allentown, PA this weekend. This show has been a staple in Drum Corps for three decades. The Eastern Classic is split into a Friday and Saturday show. Half of the corps in World Class go on Friday, while the others in World Class go on Saturday. - Expect to see a lot more activity from the Open Class corps. Due to operating costs, corps in Open Class have a very limited touring schedule. You'll see a lot of new names this week so I'll be sure to keep track of the Open Class scores as well. Enjoy the week! Quote

Denton was just over 1, and now we're down to .85... Haha, hopeful thinking for my favorite corp. =] Quote

radchad Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 (edited) It shouldn't be about who your favorite corp is. It should be about who has the best show for the current year. Edited July 28, 2008 by radchad Quote
treblemaker Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Why can't you have a favorite corps? Isn't that what it's about? You have a favorite football team... They could lose every game of the season but they are still your favorite. Doesn't mean everyone has to root for the team most likely going to the Super Bowl. Same for DCI you can root for whomever you like no matter how "good" their show is. Quote
Danpod Posted July 28, 2008 Author Posted July 28, 2008 The man has a good point. The gap is closing up. If this were happening to the Blue Devils, I'd probably look for similar things as well. However, I think The Cavaliers' brass performance is going to keep them from getting even closer. Quick recaps from NightBeat (Charlotte, NC): - Blue Devils take General Effect, Visual, and tie with Crown for Music. - Crown nails down a 9.8 in Music Ensemble Musicianship. This score is awesome, but where do you go from there with a week left? Quote

Reminds me of what happened to the Glassmen a few years ago. It started absolutely pouring in the middle of the performance. They finished the entire show, downpour and all. There is a short video clip of that very performance with a close-up of a colorguard member who seems to be having the time of her life in the rain. Probably one of the coolest things I've ever seen. mbui Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Someone posted on Drum Corps Planet that the Crossmen received an 83.30 tonight, although the Tennessee contest was rained out after their performance. It's an unofficial score, but if it holds true....GOOD for the Crossmen. I bet they performed like they were pissed and had a chip on their shoulder after being hosed by the judges last night in Charlotte with a 3 point drop back in the 79's, after being above 80.00 for over a week now. The weird thing about that Charlotte show was that it wasn't like one judge slammed the Crossmen. Their rankings were consistent across the board. Maybe it was a bad run but nevertheless, great job Crossmen! Quote

Danpod Posted July 31, 2008 Author Posted July 31, 2008 Quick recap of the Warrenton, VA show: - Crown takes General Effect, Visual, and Music. - The reason for the Glassmen jump tonight had to do with General Effect and Visual. They were a solid 3rd place in General Effect and Visual, except for the Visual Performance caption. - The Colts are breathing down The Crossmen's neck. There are a few reasons as to why. The Crossmen must be a little worn out from a cancelled show, which they did not receive the critique from, followed up by a performance at the Kennedy Center. If The Crossmen are going to hold off the Colts, they will have to do it with Music. After the General Effect and Visual Captions from last night, the Colts and Crossmen were tied. Crossmen won Music by .35, which put them over the top. Quote
Danpod Posted July 31, 2008 Author Posted July 31, 2008 Via DCI.org: Blue Devils member recovering Thursday, July 31, 2008 - 2:38 PM From a Blue Devils press release: Blue Devils euphonium horn player Joseph Ricard had a deformation of an artery in his brain since birth that suddenly burst while the Blue Devils 'A' Corps was in Landisville, Pa., Wednesday, July 30. The pressure from the resulting clot pushing against the bottom of his brain was relieved by surgery. It may be three days or more before it is know if he will have any lasting effects. Ricard is in his first year with the Blue Devils and marched as a member of the Blue Devils B from 2004 to 2007. He graduated from De La Salle High School (Concord, Calif.) this summer and will be going to the Berklee College of Music. The Blue Devils organization prayers and thoughts are with Joe and his family. The corps is determined to perform their collective hearts out the final week of the summer tour so Joe can feel their energy as he recovers in the hospital. The Blue Devils will pass on thoughts and well wishes to Joe through e-mail at: joericard@bluedevils.org. Very scary stuff. I hope everything turns out well for Joseph. Our thoughts are with him and his family. Quote
