Did you see every band in Finals? 70% of the performances were DIRTY. 6-10th place were kinda screwed up. Top 5 was pretty solid, except I would have had Keller in 5th. They had the dirtiest performance out of everyone. I'm not exactly sure what UIL judges look for, but I remember being shocked after hearing the results. Quote

Yeah I know what you mean I was a little shocked with a few results but mostly satisfied although i didn't see all the bands Quote

radchad Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 No no. It has nothing to do with who I would have placed where. It just seems to me that reoccuring bands at that competition seem to do better from year to year. Quote

They played better in prelims, but they put out some pretty amazing sounds that night and definitely outplayed the rest. Westlake's brass and woodwinds were pretty impressive. Then there was Lake Highlands and they were a huge surprise that day. They played and marched the heck out of their show. They sounded great for such a small ensemble. The reason some bands do well year after year is because they are good programs and work hard. One could say the same thing about competing at the State level. Why do the same bands continue to place so well at the State Marching Contest or BOA? B/c they work their butts off and are pretty darn good. Quote

Lake Higlands (1st time at DMI since 2003) 4. Wylie (1st time at DMI since 2004) 5. Mansfield Summitt (3rd in 2006 and 4th in 2005) 6. Sachse (1st time at DMI) Your assertion doesn't seem to add up. And I did know it was their first time at the competition. I suppose I said what I did because I didn't want to be wrong. It's a character flaw, ya know. And yes, I do understand that. It just sucks to rarely see new bands get up there with the big dogs. Quote
mbui Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 I have yet to comment on this, but I am so surprised at how some North Texas people have never heard of Westlake before. Maybe some of you aren't really familiar with bands from across the state, but it seems like everyone at DMI was shocked that they won. Westlake has made BOA Finals and State numerous times. When I heard that Westlake was going to DMI last year, I knew for sure they were going to win it. It's not a knock on the other bands that competed, but it's because how good Westlake is. Quote

Their hornline was sensational. Quote

treyj Posted September 15, 2008 Author Posted September 15, 2008 awesome i'm sad to see a few bands not on that list. Quote
Cgrad01 Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 (edited) I do not recall ever seeing a Belton show. Aren't they supposed to be pretty good? It seems like they used to be pretty competitive in 4A marching. I am surprised that Wylie, Lake Highlands and Poteet are not on there. Poteet may be attending the Frisco competition instead. takigan Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Belton is a good div 1 5A band. They competed at Area D in 2006 though they didn't make finals. They placed 13th out of the 28 competing bands. Quote
