The group that stood out to me the most, and I figured so (and predicted so) was Mansfield. For the past month, I've been hearing comment after comment about them, THAT guard has something special in them. I don't know what it was but I felt I was drawn into the action and I watched in "awe" the whole time. That was something special in that sector that I NEVER have experienced before until now. Trinity was the surprise band in finals. I had them below the charts, there was just too many individual errors and moments in the show that just made me yawn. This year should be the rebuilding year for them and I know down the road, they will rise but today was a yawner. I had Coppell ahead of Richland and Rowlett and I was very impressed with the control Clements had in their sound. Yeah. I can't wait to see Mansfield's winterguard. D: I too had Coppell ahead of Richland. Good! I think it's very hard for people who march guard, percussion, or band to appreciate(well.. more of be able to watch them and get into it) another section. Most drumline people I know onlt watch drumline, same with guard and band. But it's performances like the one they had the really makes you appreciate the hard work put on the field even more. Of course this is based only on the people I know. I am not trying to say this is true for everyone. Quote

We really wanted to prove we could march a better show than we did at area finals last weekend. we're definitely upset about not going to state, but we were really pleased with that performance. After that performance, you can really tell why Ducanville was the Honor Band this year, they were amazing! You all did really good. I didn't see your finals performance but I thought your performance for prelims was really good. It's a shame you all didn't go on to state. You definitely deserved it. Quote
C1Sherman2010 Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 I wish Sherman was going again. We went in 2006 and it was amazing. That was our "state" because it wasnt a state year. Quote
crazyjakeup Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 the finals were very nice. rowlett had a fine show(kinda sad that its my lil bros last, but i expect him to do dci ). and i loved coppells show(i my fav. is when the DM raises his hand as if to command a bigass crescendo, i really cant get enough of that). richland's show was great, a well deserved 1st... and HOLY CRAP!!! duncanville was AMAZING!!! i practically destroyed a good pair of pants after that. ...lol... crazyjakeup Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 mansfield's guard is under the directoin of matt garrett, he is the is the director of ars nova (from ntca)... thats why they are so good... they should give flower mound a run for their money this winterguard season... Quote

I am still a music guy all the way though. I am doing guard mainly just for learning. Someday when i am a band director, I want to understand how guard works and how it all comes together. I think it's given me more ability to view an ensemble as a whole. It's definitely a challenge and a huge learning experience. Matt Garrett has a lot going for him. He writes the marching drill, teaches the marching band, teaches a band, writes drill for other schools, writed the guard work and is the guard director, does the winterguard. The man does a lot. But I think considering how well Mansfield's guard did and all the spotlight they got, there is going to be a huge expectation for them in the winter season. Quote

Like they were saying, Mansfeild guard is under the director of a guy who's in Ars Nova, of coures they're going to be good! haha CONGRATS TO THEM! but if you notice, its like hey band, you stand right there while the guard takes the attention away from you guys. I'm in guard, but we should only add, not completely take over. but bravo to them either way! Quote
radchad Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 I don't think the guard completely took over. I just think the guard was so good, it was hard to not watch them. Quote
