whitewing09 Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 It'll start when the first competitions start, people saying how weak other people's bands look. Then it'll go into full bloom when the big competitions get going and someone doesn't get their way lol Quote

And of course, Danpod can enjoy my company this time rather than me getting angry because every time he actually goes to a competition- it's no where near I am. Plus, Getting another 5 dollar Mikky D's card would be nice. It's been toooo long Danpod. Quote

crazyjakeup Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 yay!!! i cannot wait!!! this fall i have friday through sunday off from work just so i can watch contest and football (i love seniority at work)... and i will be at boa in SA and state this year!!! and yes meg-meg our conversation a couple of days ago was weird... but i still love you the same... i love the fall... everything dies and i spend my time at football stadiums all week!!! Quote
treyj Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 So I was at work today (target) talking and helping my manager load this couch into a ladies car, and he says "man I sure feel sorry for those football camps starting up next week, it's way too hot for them to be out there, they work so hard." to which i replied "yeah i feel bad for them, but I really feel bad for all the marching bands (explaining that it was a state year and camp was 8am-8pm everyday) He had the nerve to laugh at me. He said band does nothing and we just stand around out there. I don't know but it kind of pissed me off you know? Everyone just thinks marching band is so easy, but in reality it isn't and takes tons of strength and stamina. Nobody realizes how hard we work and suffer to be great. I don't know just thought i would share that! go marching band! Quote
crazyjakeup Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 lmfao!!! hey i work at target too!!! (HL/BR/in-stock(which isnt stocking shelves..lol)/pog)... yeah but dont get me started about how wimpy band kids are... marching band is hard, but not physicly demanding... dont get me wrong, marching band is a challenging activity and people dont give it enough credit for being as difficult as it is to be good. but if you are having trouble in marching practice due to the heat or phyisical fatigue your either sick or you should prolly get out more... i saw a commercial the other day with jason witten and some other athletes telling kids "play at least one hour a day"... what has the world come to??? have we all turned into panzy children??? can i help you find something???lol... Trumpet Master Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Yup, now is the time for all the talk and the eventual newbies. And has it really been that long. I've been a TXB member for more than 3 years. Gasp Quote

I'm just saying people assume since it isn't a sport it is easy and it isn't. take the average american and put them out there to play an 8 minute show and they wouldn't be able to do it Quote

Just because marching isn't physically demanding doesn't mean band kids are wimpy lol... only the ones that can't take it are wimpy Quote

actualgirltrombone Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 IDK about the rest of you but even people who are in shape can't generally take running around the field at an average of 180 bpm for 6 out of 8 minutes while playing loudly and holding a horn without at least a little complaining =) Quote
whitewing09 Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 You gotta take into consideration the instrument, person saying its easy plays trumpet = easy for him Quote
crazyjakeup Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 this is very true. i did primarly play trumpet, but i did march tuba at one point (and that wasnt too hard either because it was all on your shoulders)... i do have to give credit to the rest of the brass (mello, baritone, t-bone) holding those might make someone a little uncofortable... ... ... i will also admit that marching does take some phisical abillity, but nothing to complain about... thats the issue with band kids. thats what used to make me mad at practice, when kids would whine and sit out because they were tired or hot. i wasnt shy about telling those kids what i thought. i would wear jeans and a hoodie to practice almost everyday and when everyone was taking water breaks i would run laps around the field(that makes marching band hard), just to shut there complaining up. i would tell them "you cant complain untill you do what i do"... i would also put weights on my trumpet, that actually helps alot... but i did all of that and never through a fit... Quote
whitewing09 Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Well ya I think it is dumb when people complain in band, but I wouldn't if I was like in Bell or Richland with their fast stuff. Uhh you shouldnt running around the field just to show that you can handle band and doing that at the same time. That just kind of mean because you're implying they're weak when you could be encourging em or something Quote
treblemaker Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 most people underestimate the pain involved with playing the flute. Sure it's light and doesn't take much upper body strength to hold it up but it KILLS your back when doing slides or pretty much anything that isn't straight forward or backwards. I just think every instrument has it's challenges. No matter how big or small. :] That's just my .02 Quote
dtxtrmpt Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 So today was our first day of summer marching. And because of this stupid hurricane/tropical storm, we have to cancel practice tomorrow. Today was such a great practice! Grrr. Stupid weather. Quote
crazyjakeup Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 dont you hate that... 'nways... my main beef is (lol i said beef...jk) that we are all going to be out there anyways, so no matter how much we complain, it wont make anything change... so instead of going on massive tirades, people should try to be more productive and work hard so that they can be the best that they can be... why would anyone be out in 100+ heat just to be "okay". they might as well try to be somewhat good...
