treblemaker Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 So I was watching the Olympics and I was just baffled by some of the things considered a "sport". If dancing around with a rope is a sport then why is there anyone that is questioning that marching band is a sport? UGHHH. Quote
ftwdrummer Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 On one of the other forums I'm one, someone suggested making drum corps an Olympic sport. I mean, they already have color guard, basically...it's called "rhythmic gymnastics." The only problem with it is that you'd get nowhere close to the top people to do Olympic drum corps, because everybody'd want to join one of the DCI corps, and there's no way any of the top DCI corps are going to let several of their top people start learning a different show the second-to-last week of the season. Why not full marching band woodwinds and all Quote

I agree that there are sports in the modern olympics that probably shouldn't be, but rhythmic gymnastics has been a regular for quite some time. I actually don't mind rhythmic gymnastics. What gets me is that fact that table tennis is an olympic sport. When I was young we called this ping-pong. What about badminton for that matter? With these sports being allowed into the olympics, where does the madness end. Quote
b_sax_agent Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Well, US and Japan would dominate marching band, so they will take it off anyway. Quote
the_n00b_trombonist Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 I love the Olympics! I'm just sad that my two favorite sports to watch, swimming and gymnastics, are already done. I have a crush on Alicia Sacramone But yeah now I really watch is beach volleyball. Track is okay too. But I agree that some sports should not be in there. What makes me mad is that they're removing baseball and softball but keeping stuff like rythmic gymnastics, table tennis, and above all Equestrian. I mean seriously, do those people call themselves athletes? The horse is the one that does all the work! Quote

sax5warrior Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 I hate NBC. Too much coverage on the Americans. Not that its bad or whatever, but I would love to see more coverage on other sports. Like if you have AT&T U-Verse, you can watch table tennis and other sports NBC wouldnt normally cover from the Korean and Mandarin channel. Quote
chickora Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Marching band in the olympics? What? You people are all silly, silly. Quote
whitewing09 Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Why are they doing away with baseball and softball? Quote
the_n00b_trombonist Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 I'm not sure about baseball, but the USA just dominated softball too much. That being said, the American softball team DID lose for the first time this year since softball was put in the Olympics (20 years ago? I can't remember). They lost to Japan. Quote
