Danpod Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Tournament of Champions Participants Ranchview Thomas Jefferson Lamar R.L. Turner Guyer Timberview Red Oak Centennial Frisco Cedar Hill Mansfield Sachse Wylie Creekview Berkner Hebron Martin Haltom I count 18 on the list provided on the website, which claims to be accurate as of the 13th. JustAddWat3r Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Thats quite a few good bands this year. Only half the bands from finals last year came back to compete, and yet the competition seems more fierce. Quote
marcomac29 Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 good lord... this contest got stacked in no time compared to last year... i'm nervous now... i know it's early in they year... but i'd say those last 8 bands listed make this a good contest to go to. Quote

JustAddWat3r Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 I'm going to go ahead and say this is a toss up between 7 different bands. Quote
thetransfer Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Haha I want to go to this contest to see my old band perform (Creekview). Other bands I reeeally want to see are Haltom, Berkner, Martin, Hebron, Wylie, and Mansfield! Woo this contest is getting more popular! Quote

I'm waiting with baited breath to see what is going to happen with Haltom this year. Greg Hull hasn't been running the marching band for the last few years and Van Matthews (the guy that has been running Haltom's MB) is now at LD Bell. They should still have a great sound, but Van brought a lot of Visual ability to Haltom and from what I've seen, he is doing the same at LD Bell. Quote

He chose Wylie because his old director is the head director. Anyway...I cant really say who is going to win at this point. It is still WAY to early to tell. Quote

flutespaz21 Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Hebron is pulling out some cool stuff this year, or so I've heard. I don't know any details yet, but it will certainly be very interesting... Quote

radchad Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Wow. Hebron and Haltom are going? Sweet. I can't wait to see all the bands. I may have graduated, but I love band competitions. Quote

I have seen some of Haltom's drill, some of their work, and heard some of their music. They are going to have a very cool show this year. They have a clarinet soloist who plays flight of the bumblebee. He is amazing at it, too. Quote

A show like that is normally maxed out early in the season... it's hard to get better when you're near as good as you're gonna' get at the first contest. Long story short... i'm saying that it's gonna' be hard to beat a band this early in the season that plays well and barely moves... not to diss on them... it obviously works seeing as how they do work at every contest they go to. JustAddWat3r Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 There always seems to be a breakout band at TOC. 2 years ago, Mansfield came out of nowhere to take 5th. Last year, Wylie came out of nowhere to win. I'm excited to see who it is this year. I'll be keeping a close eye on Timberview. Apparently they were the only school from Mansfield to make straight 1s at UIL. Quote
