It will be closer than a Haltom/Berkner show down I think. I'm saying this, of course, without seeing any of these shows. we play coppell next thursday im very interested to hear them Quote
borchnork Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 It's so weird to not go to contests this year... Centennial's numbers dropped quite a large deal. They went from 21 flutes to about 12. Some sections grew. I haven't seen them march, so I assumed they're about the same level as last year. I do agree the Timberview should be destroying in contest too. They are top 5 in my view... although I think I didn't put them there in my predictions, I meant to do so. lol. Quote
AzNtRoMbOnEcHiCk Posted September 21, 2008 Author Posted September 21, 2008 TOC is in six days! i'm stoked. Quote
morebueno Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 (edited) Berkner has dropped, Newman Smith added Berkner will go to the Desoto contest, im thinking it was changed because berknerband.com calander shows it being red where it was changed. Edited September 22, 2008 by morebueno Quote

takigan Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Back to the props thing..... Grand National Finals: 1. LD Bell - No props 2. Avon - Props 3. Carmel - No props 4. The Woodlands - Props (I guess, if you call strips of fabric with numbers on them "props") 5. Marian Catholic - Props (same story as Woodlands....They had a podium decoration and some random fabric laying on the turf....nothing major) 6. Broken Arrow - No props 7. PCEP - Props 8. SFA - No Props 9. Richland - Props 10. Lawrence Central - No Props 11. Center Grove - Props 12. Harrison - No Props (besides a Flag shield) Props don't win contests, and they don't really affect your placement much either (as you can tell by the even distribution of prop/nonprop bands....almost to the point of perfectly even distribution). They're arguing that BOA focuses a lot on overall visual effect more heavily than say UIL. And some band just aren't built to be like that. Edited September 22, 2008 by treyj Quote

BOA's focus is on the entire package and effect of the show----the combination of music AND visual. Shouldn't it be that way? What's wrong with a really darn good designed show? For me, music and visual should be equal in marching band (and drum corps). Music shouldn't be focused more than visual and visual shouldn't be focused more than music. Quote

I mean one of the other schools (I think it was Lawrence Central) had their colorguard pick up these huge different colored chunks of plywood and wave them around.....I consider that more of an accessory than a prop and the same thing goes for the cocoons imo. UIL or BOA, the judging is both weird. Quote

No idea, but it does look like it could be possible. Knowing that Sachse was on top, the order of the next 3 is certainly plausible. Quote

thetransfer Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 I LOVED Mansfield's show! If they clean it up, it will be awesome. Quote

I agree, that was one of my favorite shows of the evening, although it was quite dirty. I love all the heart sets that come at you in lots of different ways. And the colorguard was great! If they can clean it up it will have a good shot at doing well at Area B Finals. Quote
