Ironriot Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 I was just wondering whats the hardest show you've ever marched. Mine was definetly last year's. It was Piano Concerto(for strings), Sketches on a Tudor Psalm, and Ostinato which is the best of all three movements in Phantom's 2003 show. Quote
Moose Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 Seguin 2004 - Instormandsunshine The drill was insane, and you could tell by watching us that we could not perform drill at that level. We did those diamond cutters (ala Cavaliers) while playing and difficult eighth note passage as loud as we could. Whoever put that together, is crazy. (Mr. Raiford) Quote
Skippy Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 This year, by far. My drill in the opener is a lot harder than anything I ever marched in drum corps. Quote
manuel_pablo Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 For me, part 1 of this year is harder than any other part from last year. I can't say if this year is harder because we don't have the whole show down but i do know part 1 is harder than last year Quote
Laconic Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 Our first show this year. The closer alternates between 5/4 (where we float two beats to get four counts per bar) and 6/4 (which is straight) at a decent clip. Which, granted, most of you wouldn't consider hard, but seeing as I went to a small high school, I find it pretty difficult. Quote
Tnilli Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 Imma say 2002...and our results could pretty much tell you how hard that show was... Quote

I really want to say one thing about Spring 2002..... As a spectator, wow. After the Prelims performance at the BOA San Antonio Regional, you guys picked your heads up and ended the season on a high note. Placing 18th in Semifinals at a very very tough Grand Nationals is nothing to frown about. Especially, after the San Antonio performance. Quote
Tnilli Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 Thanks mbui. That year was really hard for most of us that were around for the altered state days. So thats all we tried to do...practice, practice and get better. Quote
Sockercon Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 my hardest year was my sophmore year when we did "Other Dances" Quote
acsc1312 Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 Definately this year....at the beginning of the year it was like oh ok, a little harder than usual. But now since the show is done, it is uber-hard! I mean dang, doin 186 bpm last movement is gonna kill me...and we still havent added visuals but we'll see...I'm actually liking the workout Quote
itsstephenyo Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 this year. i've never had to double tongue so much in a piece of music. and im a saxophone player. Quote

(Mr. Raiford) That was my hardest show also but i thought that we should have been able to perfom that drill. It was hard but we just never focus during practice, to much fighting went on . Quote
speedracerrox00 Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 This year for sure. My first year was the lamest show EVER.... you have no idea (unless you're in my band ["HELP! I'm stuck in a bad show!"])... last year's show was pretty hard i guess, atleast in comparison to the one before it but...wow. we have a lot of work to do to get used to this show and get on the level it was written for. Quote
chsgpband06 Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 Our show this year is the hardest. Cityscapes its based on the show Bizzaro and it is really tough we have 7/8 time and 5 movements almost everyone in the band is having trouble with it but so far it sounds good. Quote
hhsquadguy Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 This year...our quad break has a lick from the 2000 Cavaliers quad break. It's gotten pretty easy for us now, but when we speed up the tempo it might get tough. Quote
I<3thebox Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 I cannot BREATH!!! Hey I liked that one! But MAN was it dirrrrrTEE! 10 minutes of music at an average of 172 bpm... Im voting this year. not to mention.... 106? drill sets the only others Ive heard close to this is Ronal Reagan - with 116 and a movement to go holy frijoles!!! Quote
xMonicax Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 This year for me is the hardest I've marched >.<;; Quote
LeanderBass5 Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 This year definently. First movement 158 bpm, 2nd 164 bpm, 3rd, 184 bpm for one chart, then it goes into cut time 92 bpm, 4th movement, 150 bpm. Not to mention some haulass charts. Quote
twizzlaar Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 My hardest show is definitly this years. Ride and October, with 5 parts and tempo at 160. We are moving basicaly the whole time. We do have some holds, but the tempo is so fast, it doesn't seem that long. We don't even have enough time for any cool visuals. But its pretty good. Quote
Band Of Champions Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 Quote It was Piano Concerto(for strings), Sketches on a Tudor Psalm, and Ostinato which is the best of all three movements in Phantom's 2003 show. This is the show Martin is playing this year. And it looks pretty tough. Quote
nnelsonbsn Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 This year. 106ish sets, over 10 minutes. No time for an on-field warm-up. Whole opener at 174... blow section in 2nd movement at 184 and the end at 184... redicuolus difficult and I wasn't even putting air in my horn (bassoon player) Quote
themainclarinet Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 I agree with nick...But I thought it was 120 pages of drill...w/e practicing 8 hours a week and during class.....at 184....then run it back, 184, then run it back, now put music with it. *tries to get a breath* Gotta love band! Quote

You sure do agree with me don't you? Like every post related to mine... I agree with Nick on this. I think Nick is right about that. I agree Nick, ___. Quote
stewiemylove Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 Haha i agree too. I mean, i have only marched two shows, but this show was definatly harder then universal expressions... not to mention different sense it was my first year on cymbal line Quote
