I know.....I only put in 2006 statistics when 2007 statistics for BOA weren't available and because I wanted to reference the 2006 Area/State UIL contests. The 2007 BOA results are the most reliable to use to figure out a good idea of how these bands will place. And any other 7 of these: Fossil Ridge Colleyville Heritage Martin Lewisville Newman Smith Leander Coppell Hebron Mansfield Fossil Ridge over Connally? I can see why you would put Martin in there (though they did abysmally poor at Arlington last year for a school that beat Brazoswood in Houston the week prior), but Fossil Ridge placed 32nd at San Antonio last year. Connally, along with being a former Grand National semifinalist, is a band that I believe would have placed in the teens along with Coppell and Leander last year at SA had they competed. We're trying to change that, but since UIL is more playing oriented..... yeah... Let's just say we look better than we sound. In the past our problem has always been select people overplaying, but we're starting to get that under control and hopefully we'll do better this year. Quote
titancoaster Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 I believe that Marcus will win (duh) as far as the other finalists Locks: Berkner Cedar Park Hebron Possible finalists: Connally Colleyville Heritage (I have not seen this band enough to say they are a lock, but their DM's are pretty cool) Leander (always a strong contender) Georgetown (coming off an amazing year) Coppell (Great Musicians, I just have not heard anything about them this year to put them as a lock) Mansfield (Another good band that has done well at this competition in the past) Lewisville (A good band, but I just dont know if they will have what it takes to take on the big boys that are at the contest) Newman Smith (A band that was pretty good when I saw them a few years ago, but I have not seen them recently so I dont know where they will end up) As far as Connally is concerned I believe we can do very well on Oct. 4th. Our show this year is very well designed, by far the best one I have been apart of and has the possibility to be the highest scoring GE show Connally has ever seen. (I think it surpasses Ourspace by miles (the show we took to GN)) We are marching pretty clean and playing better than we usually do at this point. I think that if we preform the way we have rehearsed this week we will be in finals, but I will be honest there are a few spots that if one or two things go wrong we can just as easily go home in 15th place. Connally, along with being a former Grand National semifinalist, is a band that I believe would have placed in the teens along with Coppell and Leander last year at SA had they competed. ya i would put connally over us (fossil ridge) if you were looking at our standings LAST year.. but you have to keep this in perspective, things are totally different this year. you can't judge a band on previous seasons because in reality they aren't even the "same" band. things change; new students, new directors, new goals. it doesn't matter what place we got last year at one competition. last year our show wasn't consistent. we would nail our performance one day and it would totally fall apart the next. this year our whole show has been rock solid, consistently. not saying we're better than connally, because they have been amazing in the past, just saying don't count us out. For the middle of September they sounded phenomenal: super clean, very well balanced, fantastic pitch, great style, awesome tone. I'd go as far as to say they'll capture one of the top 2 spots for Music along with Marcus, barring any mishaps. Visually, they still had some things to work on, but they've had plenty of time to clean. In an ideal world, I'd place them in the top 3 very easily. Quote

I really want people to realize that there are definately a number of bands this year who can compete for the top spot, not just one. Also, I think this contest will be a lot closer than people are thinking. Of course, knowing my luck, I may end up being completely wrong too. I don't know, we shall see in a couple days.
