erasure101 Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Each block is peppered with good bands. Should make for an interesting contest. Barring any unforseen circumstances or work schedule, I will be at this contest. Which TXBANDS.com moderators will be there? Quote

jbroomas Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 I posted this on the Music for All forums and thought that I would post it again here... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I would really like to see Westfield and The Woodlands at the top at this one. I've always liked The Woodlands, they're one of those bands that very rarely have an off year, and I would really like to see them win a National Championship. I know it won't be this year for obvious reasons, but I really think they are one of those bands that deserve to win at Grand Nationals. Hopefully next year. As for Westfield, I've always liked them as well, but they here lately, they're just not consistent. They'll have a great year and two or three so, so years. Hopefull they'll get their consistancy back. I'd also like to see Spring come back soon with a vengeance. I guess we'll see! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Although LD Bell will probably at the top....... Quote

Folks.....what we have here is called a lockout. This line-up rocks compared to BOA Arlington. Good list here but do NOT overlook Friendswood or Hendrickson. I've seen these two bands several times the last few years and they are top-notch. Don't be surprised to see one or both in finals. Quote
titancoaster Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 ^I agree, both of those bands should be on the must watch list. Friendswood is always a very clean well performing band, and they usually have pretty decent show concepts and designs/ Hendrickson has been a strong band for awhile now, and this year they have a very cool, off the wall show, and I think if the judges get the off the wall part of their show there is no question they will be in finals. (P.S.- All Hendrickson band members who read this, let me say this, you hosted a great competition today and your show was very cool from what I got to see/hear of it while lining up for retreat) Quote
takigan Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 Predictions are up. This one is going to be really hard to peg, what with all the different schools having different lengths of time in being closed with the hurricane and all, some probably made it up with weekend rehearsal, others didn't, some kids in some programs might not have responded well to the weekend rehearsal (since they're not used to doing one).....tough call, especially with so many epic bands in the running. Not trying to blow smoke when i say this, but Spring has somethin cookin =] Ever since we(our wind ensemble) got chosen to go to Midwest this year, the directors have been hounding us to get out marching ensemble in gear. I'm confident that we'll have a successful marching contest season. Quote

CaviBoy09 Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 What's Spring's (and Westfield) show this year? Our Show this year is called Urban NRG (Energy) it features music that Aarron Guirdy Transposed Quote
takigan Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Our Show this year is called Urban NRG (Energy) it features music that Aarron Guirdy Transposed Don't you mean transcribed? Transcribing is taking music that already exists and scoring it for a different set of instruments, almost note for note with little melodic or harmonic changes. If it's not a verbatim transcription and actually has variations, different textures and is musically entirely different from a structure perspective yet still has roughly the same melody to it, that would just be "arranging". mbui Posted October 3, 2008 Author Posted October 3, 2008 I don't know the exact assignments, but here's the adjudication panel for the Houston Regional. Adjudication Panel: Mike Anderson - Visual William Chumley - Visual Chip Crotts - Music Allan Kristensen - Music Chuck Naffier - Music David Starnes - Music Mike Tarr - Visual That's one heck of an impressive list. It's a Grand National Finals type panel. Quote

WBHB Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 I watched Austin, Travis, and Clements tonight at the FB Band Classis. Wow! SFA hasn't lost a beat from last year, despite loosing a ton of seniors. All they have done is reload. The Angels were awesome as usual, and the program was quite inspiring. Not bad at all for missing 6 days of practice due to Hurricane Ike. They should easily be a top 5 school at Houston regionals, and don't forget, they are the defending champions. They are not going to lay down for Bell. I can't say enough about the progress that young Travis has made in the past 3 years. They have gone from second place A in 2006 to first place AA in 07 at the Houston Regionals to competing on Saturday in their first AAA division in BOA. They certainly don't have the size and raw talent of their big brother school SFA, but don't be suprised when they turn a few heads. From what I hear, this band is heavy on underclassmen, and they will be a force to recon with in a year or two. A very enjoyable show. Clements has the largest band in FBISD. They have great sound, polish, and precision on the field. They are a definite finals possibility. Quote
JediSaxSolis Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Looking forward to this weekend! I can't wait to see Bell's show. Quote
mbui Posted October 8, 2008 Author Posted October 8, 2008 3 days left. I'll be at the Regional from start to finish. Expect the same as last year---scoring spreadsheets, thoughts and lots of pictures. Here was last year's. http://forums.bands.org/vb/showthread.php?t=30046 Quote

takigan Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Having my BOA fan network subscription and all of Mr. Bui's pictures and commentary, it's pretty much the next best thing to actually being there. Quote
itsstephenyo Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 (edited) This is a good regional. Ouch for B-wood having to go first at 8:30. I still expect them to make finals, though. Brazoswood HS, TX Spring HS, TX Westfield HS, TX Clear Brook HS, TX Winston Churchill HS, TX Langham Creek HS, TX Cypress Falls HS, TX L.D. Bell HS, TX The Woodlands HS, TX Stephen F. Austin HS, TX There are a lot of bubble bands. Most notable are Klein, Pearland, Hendrickson, TW College Park, and Friendswood. I think this regional is much more difficult than the Arlington regional a week ago. Edited October 8, 2008 by itsstephenyo Quote
mbui Posted October 9, 2008 Author Posted October 9, 2008 Michael, How do you see the top 5 ending as? I see the top five looking like this..... In ABC Order----L.D. Bell HS, Stephen F. Austin HS. The Woodlands HS, Winston Churchill HS, and the toss up going to either Clear Brook HS or Cypress Falls HS. Quote
