SeaMoosi Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Hey yall, I've not really ever posted on these boards, but something my band did tonight really made me wanna put it up and out there. I'm in the CPHS band, and as some of you may know, there's been a lil animosity between us and Georgetown because of some comments made on both sides after last year's Westlake Marching Competition. While both our directors are extremely good friends, members of both bands bashed the others over something really pointless in the first place. So tonight, we had a Thursday night game against Georgetown, and our directors had us, after the game, play our shows standing still for each other and then have a lil meet-n-greet between bands. The thing about tonight was, while many people just blew it off as a pointless waste of time we could be using to catch up on homework, I decided I'd jump into the fray and try to meet new people. And, I actually met some really cool people in Georgetown's band. It was actually the highlight of my night, was meeting them, talking to them, and playing Metal Shop with them. So really, I think it was a great way to stop animosity and show us we're all a buncha band nerds together. Sure, we compete and wanna win, but at the end of the day, we're all just tryin to be the best musicians we can, and I think more bands need to do this in the future. Thoughts? Quote
urkadrums Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 I think it was really good for the bands to get together, and meet and greet. Not many bands get to do that, and last night was good for both my band and Cedar Park. I wish I had enjoyed it more, but I was crying the entire football game, seeing Mr. Pape for the first time since he left Georgetown in May (he now teaches at Cedar Park). The meet and greet for me was being embarrassed for crying in front of people I didn't know well, and Mr. Pape having to hug me and tell me that it was alright. lol He was a sort of father figure to me (besides my own) for 6 years, growing up in percussion with him throughout all of middle and high school, and then having him leave my senior year.... It was hard to see him at the game with a different group. Ah, I'm gonna cry again. But I'm real happy that the bands got together, and I'm sure that now that Pape is over there, we'll be even closer, and hopefully the friendly competition will stay friendly :]. Quote

mnkyman663 Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 That was a really cool night. I wish we could've had longer, I didn't get to talk to many ppl... And ya, this should definately happen whenever possible. That's one cool part of BOA, that they have their own version of this in "break ranks". Quote
