actualgirltrombone Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Cmon Centex, represent! Who all is going? I know Cedar Park is, and I'm assuming that Leander and Georgetown are as well.... Can we expect to see Bowie there? I can't wait, its always a ton of fun and we always get Rudys for dinner =). Quote
lhstrumpet Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Actually, we are not going to Westlake. Which is one of those rare cases. Quote
Danpod Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 If anyone can obtain a schedule, let us know! I will now take this time to pray and hope that good sportsmanship will be exercised following Westlake 2008, since the opposite happened after Westlake 2007. Quote

You know I used to think that too but we have only been going to westlake since my freshman year so we have only been 3 times. At least in recent times.. Quote
whitewing09 Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 What happened Westlake's 2007, we left before awards. Quote
longhornsax Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Vista Ridge isn't going either...don't really know why...we've always gone as well... Quote
whitewing09 Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 So what happened lol! someone tell me our band has been going for 17 years... Quote

urkadrums Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Are you talking about a Facebook group that 2-3 dorky band kids from my school made that had a picture of the Cedar Park band and it said "PWNED" on it? So lame. Quote

Yeah, I think the main thing was that this was probably the first time in recent competition that Georgetown beat Cedar Park at a contest. So, the beating of Cedar Park went to some select few people's heads, especially since BOA SA was coming up, and they got a little tooooo happy. I hope you understand that our band program is not like that, and that was just some individuals who decided to poke fun at what happened at Westlake 2007. I'm definitely a good apple Quote
takigan Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 (edited) You know what's sad.....that wasn't the first time Georgetown's disgraced itself in the face of the marching band community concerning the Westlake competition. I remember back in '01 (my sophomore year) during the performance of the remaining bands in finals after we'd gone on, a couple G-Town students got a hold of the stash of cones, barriers and tape that the Westlake staff had used to regulate traffic for the competition.....they took the role of yellow "Caution" tape (like the kind you see covering crime scenes and such), took it up into the stands where the rest of the band was watching the remaining finalist bands and started tearing off strips of it and passing it around; the receipients then forming them into headbands and armbands to wear on their person. Not to mention we were being really LOUD while the other bands were performing. So loud, one of the directors from one of the other schools complained to the Westlake staff, the Westlake staff came over, and upon finding out what we did with the tape (since technically what we did could be considered VANDALISM) informed our head director.....we almost got disqualified and even SUSPENDED from the competition. Only through intense apologizing from our staff did they reconsider, and we got HE11 for it after the competition! We didn't compete the following year, and when we competed again in '03 our directors were almost too afraid to enter, thinking the past might repeat itself getting us suspended for real that time. Lucky for us, Finals got rained out that year. I didn't know this Facebook group existed....that's sort of disheartening . Edited August 27, 2008 by takigan Quote
urkadrums Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 (edited) Yeah, this year the directors are cracking down on a few kids so that we will be mature, responsible, and respectful. Hopefully no events like those will happen again. The facebook group I believe, is now deleted. Edited August 28, 2008 by urkadrums Quote

I'm definitely a good apple I remember we played ya'll the week after westlake and ya'lls band had a really good performance and we had our worst performance of the season partly due to poor marching skills. Haha. But the thing I remember most from that game is ya'lls student section and how they made them self look like a$$es and they got in a lot of trouble and your director had to come and apologize for your student body. But the band was great! :]] Quote

Our student section is a bunch of stupid jerks who just yell and are really annoying, and they always beg for the battery to come over and play cadences for them to dirty dance to during the game But yeah, they were huge jerks to the leander band, saying LEANDER BAND SUCKS, which they replied to our director by saying "we were supporting OUR band" but that wasnt the right thing, and they were banned from having the battery play for them for the next game, as well as being yelled at by our directors. Deserves them right. I'm sorry that some of our student body are jerks. But thank you for that comment Quote
actualgirltrombone Posted August 28, 2008 Author Posted August 28, 2008 I'm really glad it was just a few rogue students, although over here at CP the facebook group mostly made us LOL. By the way, how is that kid who had his finger chopped off? We heard about that through said group. =) Anyway, hopefully good sportsmanship will be the name of the game this year! I'm really looking forward to seeing yall's show! Quote

I'm really looking forward to seeing yall's show! Yeah, those guys were doing it all in good fun. We dont hate Cedar Park :] A few kids have some weird inside jokes about Jeremy Spicer, but thats all. And our old percussion director Paul Pape is there now, so we respect yall, except for the whole friendly competition thing Oh Briggs? He played Bass 3 last year, and yeah, I saw it happen. He almost completely chopped the tip of his middle/fourth finger off (as well as breaking them) by tripping over the synth speaker he was rolling and having his drum crush his finger. It was hanging off and lajsdlf;jsdf;lsda it was disgusting. He just looked at me in horror and held up his hand and I screamed, "GO TO THE NURSE !!" and almost fainted. But he is good. Healed fingers, still has all 10 lol, and he is now on tenors. I hope so too . and Thank you ! Oh and yes, we are going to Westlake lol We have our first football game/performance in the ALAMODOME TOMORROW. The freshmen are going to freak. Quote

Gosh if I had a nickel for everytime that's happened...even back in my day! They used to be the biggest handful when we were playing rival schools like Round Rock or Leander. Rowdy bunch of hooligans they are! *shakes fist* lol, I'm so old. Quote
