Sandra Day O'Connor has attended Westlake off and on for several years.

This is true. All 400 of them. The district that O'Connor resides in, Northside Independent School District, has had a major population boom in the past few years. O'Connor itself is about 1,000 students above capacity. The District itself has opened two brand new schools in the past three years and there is another brand new school opening up in 2010. I'm not sure if they have decided to go with two marching bands or not.

I'm dreading one thing about tomorrow,

The WESTLAKE HILLS.

Only the front ensembles know about these, because the band enters the field from a different direction.

It's brutal though. There's one or two hills going down to warm-up area that aren't THAT bad, but they do require a good hold of the instrument. (we've had a rack fall over before).

The way back up after you perform is a different story.

There is one huge STEEEEPPPP hill you have to push your board up, and then after that, you have to go back up the previous hills (uphill, mind you) you traversed down earlier.

I almost die every year, because I'm so tired, and the marimba is so heavy, and the hills are so steep.

Our pit always joke around about these dreaded hills, and scare the freshmen about the terror they have to face :D

Does anyone know the actual schedule of the performances. I have looked at the website and they list the participating bands and classes. They also list the time blocks for each class and finals. Anything more detailed than that?

Thx

im not understanding the optionmal class AAA exibition in finals... when do they decide if they go on or not

The winner of class AAA gets an opportunity to perform at finals as kind of an exhibition. If they want to stay the whole day then they can do that.

I drove down to watch the competition and man was it worth it. I took so many notes that the lady in front of me was so curious as to what I was writing that she asked to read them. Haha. Congratulations to all competing bands. There were definitely some spoilers tonight. I hope the two Georgetown players are okay after their collision it looked pretty bad but they recovered very nice.

PS. I will never take advantage of the fact that I normally get to ride on a bus to competitions and not have to sit in the traffic leaving the stadium after finals. Haha. And Xenon you stole my thunder...

EDIT: I can't speak English well.

Man, how in the world do you win a competition with that many park and barks? THey must have been standing still for half the show while just blasting away.

I would not characterize Cedar Park's playing as "just blasting away."

What else do you call it when there sound already has an edge to it and then they try to overblow even more while standing still?

Well... personally I'm not too sure why you'd call it "park and bark" and feel the need to focus on us halting "half of the show." We've been working just as hard as any other band that participated at the Westlake Competition and calling us out on these grounds that you mention undermines us a little much, does it not?

And I mean, our sound, edgy? Our show is titled "On Edge," but I don't think you were alluding to that. It's cool you've got your personal opinion on us but if anything, please, keep the negitivity of your comments to yourself for future knowledge.

I think that all of the bands tonight put on a really great show. I really liked seeing Round Rock right before finals ended :) (at least we had gotten the chance to see at least one bands perform). Aside from the shows that I could see, Bowie's closer sounded amazing from a distance, and from behind the fence <_< , *shrugs*, and Akin's sounded phenomenal along with Dripping Springs. Too bad that's all we had gotten to hear tonight :(

Who else had a blast enjoying the shows?

I didn't! I wasn't there! :( :( :( :( :( T.T

I'm an Akins alum. What did you think of their show honestly?

I've seen only bowie before. And of course, they had something cool going on. :D

I really want to see Cedar Park among others.......

Ahhh, the little annoyances of living 9 hours away from Texas. lol

Personally, I think we deserve a couple park and barks. As far as my count, there are only two where we stand there for any length of time; a hold set for 8 counts or 6 six counts at 180 bpm doesn't exactly count as a "park and bark" in my book. Also, we move at 180 bpm for like 5 minutes. You try to play that loud after having moved that fast and then say we stood still for "like half the show".

On a completely different note, Round Rock's show was awesome! It was nice actually getting to see it, and it sounded really good. It seems like Round Rock's been eating their Wheaties this year. =) I think they're gunnin for State.

Standing still for half the show? You gotta be kidding me. Flying around the field at 180 (192 at the end) is definately not standing still. And when we play loud, we don't blast. We play with a good sound, really really loud. Also, when we stop marching, it makes sense to stop based on what we're playing. Like someone said earlier, please keep the negativity down.

I know the story Travis it is okay...

Congradulations to every band that was there, unfortunately I couldn't be there to watch living 6 hours away and having to attend a football game (6-0 baby!). Nice job Cedar Park! That is how it's done.

there was a considerable amount of standing around but with a tempo as fast as that its a little justifiable. the only problems i have is that holding the tempo was a little shaky. so you cant really use that argument. its difficult to march that fast but hes was right in saying "park and bark". starting at fff and then getting louder. plus there was very little contrast between the brass and woodwinds in my opinion. brass overpowered most of the show (there were some pretty cool woodwind moments though). but in no way was cedar park less deserving than any other band out there. they went out and played and marched the crap out of there show. but people shouldnt dog on other people just for voicing there opinion. things like that comment "park and bark" it doesnt really matter. in that situation just hold up that first place trophy.

Sorry if my comment came out wrong. I wasn't trying to bash him for voicing an opinion, I just thought he was overstating it a little bit. I totally respect his and anyone else's opinion. By the way do you remember any specific moments where we had tempo issues? Because I thought we were pretty consistent (but I haven't seen the video yet).

Also: oh, dynasty=travis=cp drum major 06=creator of txbands! Now it all makes sense...

Ya'll didn't have too many tempo issues though you did have people struggling to keep up with the tempo in their feet but that is probably due to the fact that ya'll are increasing the tempo more and more and they need time to get used to it.

I saw Cedar Park at BOA Arlington and I'd have to agree that I didn't hear their woodwinds at all. It was very brass-heavy, and at some times, the high brass could have dialed it down a bit. My friend sitting next to me said that the sound with the lack of woodwinds was like a drum core.

I think that was due to the design of drill. In most of the power moments the brass were front and center obviously and in the closer the drill was like reverse concert arcs with brass in front and woodwinds behind. I'm sure it all goes along with the effect they are trying to achieve.

Bingo! Though granted I was before your time. Glad to know people still remember.
