Ex: Southwest last year. 3rd in 4A honor band, but didn't qualify for even Area. I must admit, I was disappointed, because they seemed like some very very strong competition (not saying that what we went up against last year wasn't, because obviously it was. Lol, Aledo and Sherman both placed at the TSMC). Was about to say the same thing about our band. Our concert program is really strong and our marching program never lives up to it. This year is the first year where I can see a bit of our concert success forming into success on the field. But yeah, our band last year could have been the poster band that represented concert success not forming into marching success. Third in TMEA Honor Band and couldn't even manage to get a first division at UIL. It was crazy. Anyway, I really wanted to drive up to see finals tonight but not a single one of my friends could go with me. Oh well, I have a nice UT game that I recorded to watch. tubanerd126 Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 The judges rankings in Area B prelims were very spread out and inconsistent. To a point somewhat humorous. Fata1 Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 The music rankings were all over the place with some bands. I really hope finals is more accurate. Quote
sax5warrior Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 After 20 minutes of studying it, I am so confused. Quote
thePIXELelement Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I've been looking at it for awhile too and I am still dumbfounded by some of the rankings. Take Summit's marching rankings for example, 9th and 25th, that's a 16 place gap between the two. That's just one of many examples. Quote
the terminator Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 that's messed up, but as i said already i know this judging system will produce situations like this, so u can't do anything about it Quote
queso2992 Posted October 26, 2008 Author Posted October 26, 2008 yeah...the rankings are ridiculous...I'm from Grapevine and we finished a lot better than last state year but were so confused by our jumping rankings... Quote

sax5warrior Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 (edited) That was quick, and I thought I confirmed it an hour ago but the server of this site is having major issues right now. Edit: Congratulations to these fine organizations. Edited October 26, 2008 by sax5warrior Quote
itsstephenyo Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Hmm... the spread in points during prelims isn't nearly as bad as it usually is. For the most part, it's relatively consistent across the board, except for one or two bands. Much better than SFA four years ago getting a 3rd place and a 25th place vote in music at state... Quote
ftwdrummer Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Depressing beyond belief...that's the only way I can describe tonight. Especially when the consensus of every person anyone could find to ask said that Paschal was third at worst in our block (and much better than, say, Wylie), and we came in fifth. I know it's UIL, and the system's facacta at best (gotta love Yiddish)...but still. The last competition of your career being lost on UIL judging just kinda hurts. Quote

Um, I'm really not trying to be mean here, but I don't think UIL had anything to do with y'all placing so low. Paschal's scores are very consistent across the board. There's no judging error there. ftwdrummer Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I know...I'm grasping at straws. In that whole "dealing-with-things" thing, I'm up to "bargaining." It's not the score consistency thing I'm looking at, though...it's just what they score, and how they score it (music execution and marching execution only, minor regard given to difficulty and effect of show). Then again...BOA didn't like us either. Maybe I just don't want to admit we stunk. Quote

And I'm not trying to be a sore loser. I applaud the bands who made finals. But really 22nd? I watched the video of the performance and I really did not see a 22nd place performance. Some of the bands that high up there. Some of it was just a joke. congrats state bands!!! Quote
itsstephenyo Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Yea, there's no perfect system (although I'm a huge BOA fan). UIL is certainly flaws, but BOA isn't perfect either. Ok, back on topic, does anyone have the judge's sheets from Finals? I wanna see how the scores turned out. Quote
