Danpod Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Showdown? Easy now. Both versions are arranged a bit differently so it'll be nice to see how both programs utilize the piece. Quote

Danpod Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Where can I find a list of area D participants? You can find it on the UIL site, after the Region contests have completed =) Quote
CPtenor Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 This should be a pretty fun and intense contest, at least that's what I'm hoping for. Quote
Danpod Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 This should be a pretty fun and intense contest, at least that's what I'm hoping for. It always is. Area D is just sick with great programs. Also, the concessions sold Chick Fil A last time in 2006! Quote
lhstrumpet Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 (edited) Westlake and USSBA Hays ended, so we can talk about this now. Region 8, 18, and 26 all have 8 5A Bands, and 12 has 12. So there are 36 Bands. If they all get a one (possible), there would be *7* bands going to state, but there is likely going to be 6. It seems like quite a few good bands won't be going to Finals or State. Too many bubble bands. Edited October 12, 2008 by lhstrumpet Quote
takigan Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 Akins Cedar Park Connally Georgetown James Bowie Leander Ronald Reagan Round Rock Vista Ridge Westlake Winston Churchill There's the 11-band bubble of hopefuls (granted they don't botch their Region performance and get a 2) and also the most likely finals block. One of these heavyweight bands won't even make finals (which will be a shame since not a single one of these bands has competed in Area D over the past decade and not made finals), which means there also won't be any leeway for some of the other great bands that we sometimes get to see in finals (Pflugerville, Belton, Westwood, Judson etc.) this year. Danpod Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 It'll be a great contest and I look forward to hanging out at Area D all day! Quote

I would probably put New Braunfels in that potential finalist group too, but otherwise I agree. Every band that advances from this area is a legitimate state finals threat. I wouldn't even rule out the possibility of all Area D advancers making finals. Quote
CPFrntEns Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 Ack!! I was going to try to make a prediction of who will move on to State, but it's just too hard! So many bubble bands... plus I've barely seen any shows. Quote

So many bubble bands... plus I've barely seen any shows. It'll be very close to call. Keep in mind that the judges switch responsibilities between Prelims and Finals. When the programs are this good, a sub-par performance in Area Finals could be costly. Quote
CPFrntEns Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I really hope we get to see more bands play. I want to see Churchill's version of Medea. Quote
Foob Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Does anyone know how Reagan is coming along this year? I know their school was partly split by the new high school in the district. Quote

mnkyman663 Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 They're sure to be amazing...as always. I wish ppl could get videos up sooner, I wanna watch so many of these bands now! Quote
steg5 Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 The sooner the videos, the worse the show is. It gives an idea of what the show is, but I would wait to post my bands last performance. It was scarrrryy! We just learned are last bit of drill this last week. Onward to cleaning!!! And visual learning, that is, if we have any to learn. "/ Quote
musicaidnow Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I will actually get to see this contest since I don't have a football game to play at (6-0 baby!!) and I'm driving in that friday. I'm am really excited to see Cedar Park's show (finally) since they are going to play the sock off it. Quote

musicaidnow Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Chris Anderson, gee that name sounds really familiar. It's not like he's the Goin' Band director or anything... Quote
lhstrumpet Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Both Leander and Westlake are playing Dance of the Jesters from what I hear. how fun! I kind of wish we have a early performance time, because I want to see all of the other bands in the area. Quote
