lowreed2010 Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I'm from Leander, and first off congratulations to all the bands that advanced you all did great. But my nagging question until I see the video of our performance is, how did we do? Every last member of the band felt that we had the best run of the year, and we were all shocked when we learned of the placements. If anyone could tell us how it went that would be great. Quote
EuphBeast09 Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Ok..so this kid is like being all upset on how he made 5th...but darn he should be all happy and stuff...his school got a chance to make it up there to state and they should take that and use it to their advantage... Also you shouldnt be all bringing this kid down more than he already is. Yeah he is being stupid but no need to really do anything...idk i like to keep things calm here...after all we all work here for the same goal. Also i love the band parents they are like all supportive of their kids schools and stuff making noise even when they are told not too..* the yeah and stuff from yesterday* but yeah thats just showing how they like us... Im not here saying that all bands are equal all bands have their weaknesses and their strenghts. Every band has to work on something to be better. You are not all of a sudden the best there was. ...thats it. Quote
Kyle Chappell Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I'm sorry. I don't know what I was thinking. I'm going to leave now. I feel terrible. I think that Cedar Park definately deserved to win this Area contest and Churchill probably did deserve the low placement given to us. What im confused about is how we dropped three spots between prelims and finals. Quote

As with the other 26 bands that performed yesterday, Leanders placement simply just wasn't good enough to advance, but really if you feel you marched your best and your family's happy and you're happy then your job was done . I suggest maybe asking your director to share the comments from the judges to get a little insight. Edited October 26, 2008 by iceeblue2 Quote

Mellos09 Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Well I'm bummed just like everyone in the Connally band we all felt like we had our best preformance ever. But then again most people always feel they have there best preformances. So when it comes down to it. Our best might not have the THE BEST. I'm just happy that I had such an awesome senior year, the fact that I got to make area finals 3 times. It was a great year and congrats to the bands that made state. I know they are going to represent our area well. Good luck guys. Quote

Yeah thats what i was thinking,Its just gonna be wierd going in tomarrow to ask what they found out,That being our "best preformance yet" and making tied for 9th really bummed the band sadly. Quote

OK, I'm just a band fan. I haven't marched since the 1980's, and I'm a strictly amateur musician (although I do have a pretty good ear), so my opinion means very little, but..... Leander's performance was very good. The music was excellent. The English horn solo gave me chills. The trumpet feature was nicely done. All of the band had great tone and none of the intonation problems so many of the bands struggled with. I thought the guard did a great job. The prelims and finals performances were consistently good. I didn't have much to criticize for Leander (and I did for many other bands). I liked Leander's version of Dance of the Jesters better than another band's; the other band was larger and louder but Leander's tone was better, richer. Leander was on my personal list of finalists. Imho, Leander was great, it was just that the other bands were even better. Quote
MacBariphonium09 Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I agree that MacArthur is doing pretty good this year. I saw them at Region 12 when I went there to watch. They surprised me. I totally agree they make Area D finals...but not too sure about advancing to state honestly. Thanks bud, We have that image of us not being a "good enough band" according to some people. But this year we stepped up and did work. But apparently it wasn't enough to make finals. We got the same place as two years ago, 12th. Thats all I wanted to do this year, make finals but oh well. State was a going to be a long shot for us....and extremely long shot for us. lol But I'm glad of our progress this year. We got alot accomplished. I have no regrets. It's been a fantastic year for us. Good luck to all the advancing bands going to state! go out there and DO WORK! Quote

Danpod Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I think that Cedar Park definately deserved to win this Area contest and Churchill probably did deserve the low placement given to us. What im confused about is how we dropped three spots between prelims and finals. The judges switch responsibilities between Prelims and Finals so there's a chance that a judge may have seen other flaws. It's the nature of the beast but I wouldn't worry too much about it. Clean slate at State. Yeah, that rhymes. Quote
TheThing Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 My personal opinion: Connally deserved to be going to State. Their musical performance was phenomenal! Everything was so clean, crisp, centered, and clear. I can't believe that one judge gave them 9th in Music. Even just a 7th from that judge would have put Connally in State over Vista Ridge. Don't get me wrong, I thought Vista Ridge did great as well and very deserving of a State spot, but I personally believe that Connally performed better in the evening. Not to jump on the bandwagon (no pun intended) but i thought Connally was in after i watched their show. I did not see very many bands, maybe 3 or 4, but i was impressed by thier sound. I couldn't see marching or pictures well from my view though. Quote
longhornfrk Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I just wanted to give some props to westlake and Vista ridge. I was really impressed with both of ya'lls shows. I was in the stands and was surprised by the Westlake band and their drumline. I only got to see the last three or four bands and that was the only drumline I was impressed by, they hit on a lot more stuff than the others I expected. And Vista Congrats on Making state thats awesome first year in 5A. Two bands from leander isd, CP and Vista awesome! CoCenter-CP Snareline Quote
bonepit06-07 Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 i am a Connally alum and i have been with the band ALL SEASON allthough i wasnt a tech.. i would just like to say congrats to the band all though the season didnt end the way u guys wanted it too i am proud that you guys werent willing to give up.. good job on a great season. also to the band parents it i am so glad that we hv parents just as supportive as you guys i mean the crazy amounts of work that you guys put into making these bands do there besast is totally priceless and i cant say enough how thankful i am that band students in the state of texas hv such great supportive parents like u!!! Bittybear Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 I just wanted say...this was an awesome year! Our music was the best, our drill was the best. Our last show was a performance of a lifetime. Thanks to everyone supporting us...It's really appreciated I'm a Bowie parent and I think you all rocked. I love, love, loved your show! Congrats on a good showing in moving up to 5A. Quote
heavyduty16 Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 i would just like to say to connally that as long as you marched your heart out and left everything on the field you should be proud ... as a member of hendrickson we learned disappointment last year but you just have to get up and show why they should have put you in state .... im really starting that judges just dont like mr.A lol =)jk Quote
simply2937663 Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Woah... Well just out of curiosity any one have a vid on the web of CP's Medea I'm somewhat interested in what it looks, and I didn't get a chance to see it at the festival for scheduling conflicts. Quote
longhornsax Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Anyone have any info on Georgetown? I was surprised to not see them in finals... Quote

longhornsax Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 yah, I thought that might have something to do with it....really curious to see the prelims results for this Quote
urkadrums Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 (edited) We performed first. Band directors said it was our best performance. Can't talk about the judges sheets, but we ended up getting 19th. Yeah. Here's our prelims show. Edited October 27, 2008 by urkadrums Quote
K'Ehylehr Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Anyone have any info on Georgetown? I was surprised to not see them in finals... I'm just a band fan (marched in the 1980's, amateur musician etc), so my opinion may not be worth much: Georgetown's show "Fighter Flight" was great. Great tone, excellent solos, esp oboe and flute. Loved the trombone slides - cool effect both visually and aurally for this show. Some transient intonation issues (like one might expect early in the morning) but definitely better tone/tuning than the next three bands. Looks like a difficult drill; it was so much more clean than at Westlake. Good guard work. The sun was so low in the sky when they performed, it made them difficult to see, but they performed an excellent show anyway. In my notes, I had written "Excellent - Probable finalist" but by later in the morning I had begun to realize just how astronomically high the standards were going to be for this competition; I revised my placement to "possible" finalist - along with about six other bands. [The seven "possible"'s were in addition to seven "probable"'s and two "I'm certain"'s on my list.] I've been to plenty of competitions where I think their show would have made finals. It's just that Area D is so oversaturated with good bands that, as good as Georgetown was, others were better. Quote
kuraiikoneko Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 I know that we have generally already moved on from the topic of Connally, but I would like to thank everyone very briefly for their kind words regarding our preformance. The fact that all of you had so much faith in us means a lot. Yes, I'm disappointed that I won't be going to the Alamodome my senior year, but I'm glad to have even had the chance to hope for it at all (aka, the unexpected jump to 5A). I personally want to wish all those moving on to State the best of luck. I can't be there [darn you school anyways], but you can BET I'll be youtube-ing to see what I missed out on. :] Quote
eatmyshorts5 Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 yah, I thought that might have something to do with it....really curious to see the prelims results for this Hey guys congrats on advancing to state. Real happy for your guys Quote
salmag Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 I usually don't reply to these type of things, but after seeing another member's posts from Churchill HS i was pretty disappointed. As a senior band member and president of the Churchill Band, I would like to apologize again for some of the things said by one of our members on this thread; I can say with confidence that he was alone in his stance, and that the rest of the Churchill Band is very grateful just to qualify for state and we are looking forward to another opportunity to preform, hopefully two. I think quite often, when you are on the field preforming, emotions get involved and we tend to confuse energy with quality and in our case I have a feeling that is what happened to us in finals. Good luck to all the bands that advanced to state from Area D, it was an outstanding competition, and by the way, I agree that Connally did great in finals and should have advanced to state. Can't wait to see everyone one again, all the best this next week! Quote
