crazyjakeup Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Area C is made up of bands from regions 3,20, and 21... here are the possible bands to make it: RICHARDSON CEDAR HILL NAAMAN FOREST LUFKIN DESOTO JOHN HORN SKYLINE SACHSE LAKE HIGHLANDS JOHN TYLER IRVING GARLAND LAKEVIEW CENTENNIAL SOUTH GRAND PRAIRIE MACARTHUR NORTH MESQUITE SUNSET ROBERT E. LEE COPPELL SOUTH GARLAND GRAND PRAIRIE NIMITZ W.T. WHITE NORTH GARLAND DUNCANVILLE MESQUITE BERKNER ROWLETT but they must first be awarded a first division rating at the region level... here are the judges: PRELIMS Randy Bartlett - Music Jack Fariss Quote
Xenon Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 That's 28 maximum bands which means Area C could take a maximum of 5 to State. BUT. There are a number of bands on there that unfortunately have next to no chance of making a I at region. I suspect that Area C will be taking 4 bands to State. Quote
crazyjakeup Posted October 15, 2008 Author Posted October 15, 2008 2 years ago, the bands that advanced were Duncanville, Rowlett, Coppell, Berkner. the alternates were sachse and desoto... but that was a while back, so a whole lot has changed... you can bet that duncanville will basicly be a shoe-in... Mr. daniel is prolly right about the fact that 4 bands will likely advance(silly dallas schools, they are fun to watch though)... that means 3 spots are left open. most people will quickly predict that it will be coppell, berkner and rowlett to finish off the state list, but there are some really good "under the radar" bands right behind them. lake highlands, and desoto have looked really stong, as well as south grand praire, and richardson. i personally think that the band most likely to upset somebody is sachse. from what i hear, they really have a great show this year(even if it is based on the taks test). sachse is my amla matre's rival. on monday they boo'ed rowlett at our district's bandfest(its kinda like a pre-uil). they are really good though. i would love to see them make state(though a small part of me would hate it ). Moose Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Rowlett out, Sachse in. Duncanville Berkner Coppel Sachse Quote
sax5warrior Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 (edited) You hit it right in the nail Jacob. I expect similar results from 2006 but with a twist. Lake Highlands looks more defined and cleaner than last year, and that was a killer baseball show. Richardson Berkner is looking stronger than ever with their show. Coppell with their show of The Planets and their history. Rowlett, Duncanville, and Sachse are always strong. South Grand Prairie, Richardson, and DeSoto are darkhorses in this area and may throw a curveball and shake this thing up a lot. Questions that must be answered are.. Will at least 20 bands get a division 1? That number is at risk to fluctuate up or down because even though this area has 9-10 bands who are very strong, this area also has a notorious number of weak Division 1 bands. Will a surprise occur with the finals results? WHO is going to state? Area C has gotten tougher than ever before that no one is safe anymore. Edited October 15, 2008 by sax5warrior Quote
Donezo Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I too think it will be the 2006 four once more, but I think Coppell is the most vulnerable to a Lake Highlands/Sachse upset. They didn't compete this past weekend though, so they've probably cleaned up since Arlington. I'm a bit wary of this area though. Last time there were barely enough bands to advance four and that was with every single band in Region Three making a one. I just don't think that's going to happen again. It will be close. Quote
Xenon Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Yeah, I'm really scared about the possibility of this area only advancing 3 bands. The Region 20 judging panel is shaping up to be a really tough panel. I wouldn't be surprised if only 5 bands advanced from Region 20. Quote
crazyjakeup Posted October 15, 2008 Author Posted October 15, 2008 well if it doesnt get rained out, i will be at region 3's contest tonight. i'll watch the first block(the weaker block that will have 2's, if there are any) and then berkner and sachse in the second block. i'm hoping for all ones. but i hear that the judges are not going to be as quick to give ones(unlike 2006)... if Xenons right about 5 bands out of region 20, that would mean if region 21 had all three bands make ones and region 3 had all thirteen bands make ones, only 21 bands would be at area. if two of the bands from region 3 or 21 make a two then three bands make state... *gulp* we will see what happens tonight... crazyjakeup Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 region 3 results: South Garland- II John Horn-I Lake Highlands- I Lakeview-I Rowlett -I Garland -I North Garland-I Berkner-I Sachse-I North Mesquite-I Richardson-I Naaman Forest- I Mesquite-I 12 bands advance. Quote
sax5warrior Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 12 bands down, 16 bands to go. 8 bands need to make a division 1. South Garland's division II really hurt. Quote
Donezo Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 That actually turned out a lot better than I expected. There's probably some rating inflation going on here (which is par for the course in region 3 really) but I suppose it's all for the best. Quote
the terminator Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 there are 6 more bands that got 1s last year, so that puts the number at 18 with 2 more needing to get it. I think Grand Prairie and Cedar Hill are the two bands that must get 1's to make 20 Quote
sax5warrior Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 the terminator said: I think Grand Prairie and Cedar Hill are the two bands that must get 1's to make 20 The only bands I can think of that are on the "bubble" are Cedar Hill, Grand Prairie, Irving, and Irving MacArthur. We need these at least two bands to make just 1s. This is awfully close. Quote
the terminator Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 yeah u have to count on bands that haven't done it before, so the odds aren't in ur favor Quote
sax5warrior Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Region 20 isn't giving those division 1s like candy. Quote

sax5warrior Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Region 20 has sent.. South Grand Prairie DeSoto Coppell Duncanville to area. It is official, only 3 bands can qualify no matter if all 3 Region 21 schools make a 1. Quote
morebueno Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 (edited) That is so F'ed up to stick Area C with Region 4 who has NO 5A bands... and Region 20 with all the sucky Dallas schools. well then, 1. Duncanville 2. Berkner 3. Coppell A-Rowlett Easily can take any of the spots above: Lake Highlands or Sachse Edited October 19, 2008 by morebueno Quote

Berkner and Coppell are at risk to be the odd-man out and every week I think about this, I truly think Coppell is the odd one out. As for Area C being stuck with Region 4 and 20, that's the name of the game. It just provides true, quality state bands. Edited October 19, 2008 by sax5warrior Quote

jp0621 Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 coming from coppell, im going to have to say that it's going to be really tough for us to make state this year. bands like duncanville, sachse, berkner, and rowlett are great bands (if i forgot any, im sorry, but those are the ones that came off the top of my head), and i think it'll turn out to be a great match-up, and we'll see who makes it to state. as of now though, i really cant give any predictions, because as i said, there are those great bands that i mentioned earlier, and it's going to be tough.
