Xenon Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 The Clear Brook situation was disappointing. I thought they would be a shoe-in for finals. Rumor has it that one judge had them placed 17th, and that threw them out. That wouldn't really matter unless they also had 2 other judges placing them outside of Finals. If you have 2 Music and 1 Marching judge placing you in Finals, then you get to be in Finals no matter what place you end up in. Quote
Xenon Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Area F Prelims Results: 1. Brazoswood 2. Westfield 3. Spring 4. North Shore 5. Clear Lake 6. The Woodlands 7. Pearland 8. Dickinson 9. Tomball 10. Klein 11. The Woodlands College Park 12. Klein Oak 13. Clear Creek 14. Clear Brook 15. Klein Collins 16. Pasadena Memorial 17. Conroe 18. Deer Park 19. Alvin 20. Baytown Sterling 21. Channelview 22. Baytown Lee 23. MacArthur Quote
ClaireAnnette07 Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Wow...I'm really shocked to see Clear Brook as 14th. I know it's been awhile since I've seen their band, but they've always been a great program and I thought they'd go to finals. I guess I'm not the only one who's shocked at the judging, though Quote
ikilledabird39 Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 (edited) College Park and who ever got 10th Tied. College park ended up getting the boot because supposedly the judges voted for who would go on, which is not how it is supposed to be done. Also, one of the Judges gave College park a 1. Xenon Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 College Park and who ever got 10th Tied. College park ended up getting the boot because supposedly the judges voted for who would go on, which is not how it is supposed to be done. Also, one of the Judges gave College park a 1. The judges don't vote on who would advance to finals in the case of a 10th place tie; the terms Vote and Preference are just used to describe the tie-breaker process. Consider the following example (I don't know the actual rankings for Area F prelims): Band A: Music 9 9 10 Marching: 12 11 Total: 51 Band B: Music 15 16 14 Marching: 1 5 Total: 51 So, Band A and B tied. What you do is you re-rank based on just these two bands. So what you get is: Band A: Music 1 1 1 Marching: 2 2 Total: 7 Band B: Music 2 2 2 Marching: 1 1 Total: 8 Therefore Band A advances to Finals while Band B does not. Quote
PrideOfPearland Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I'm really curious to see what the break down is. Quote
ikilledabird39 Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I realize the process that is used to determine a tie. Which is why i said that the way that they broke the tie was wrong. And from what i can understand, they did an actual vote, not the process that was supposed to be used. Quote
BDAZdrummer Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 (edited) As bad as i wanted state.... ( and i wanted it beyond belief.... to go from being the smallest 4A at state to being the smallest 5A would hav been nothing short of absolutely incredible..) (this is the first time dickinson has not gone to state since iono the begining of time mayb?... haha) but losing to bands Such as - Brazoswood - The Woodlands - West Field - and Spring (which are the bands that are going to state btw) and being right behind north shore (whose the alternate) making us (dickinson) 6th is at the very least, a respectable loss ironically enough the 4 state contenders are very well known BOA bands as well (im not sure of north shore so i cant comment on them) those top 4 bands were bands were easily predicted to b our most difficult competition and to b placed to so close to them in competition is pretty B.A i gotta say, bcuz thos are bands weve (as a band) hav looked up to since b4 i can remember even my sister who was in the Dickinson band in the mid 90's remembers admiring those programs as well no, we did not hav the great honor of returning to state but by all means im certain that everyone in our band program was proud of our performance last evening. which needless to say, in the end, if we honestly do our best, that's all well hav power over my Band director made a very good point after we reviewed our preliminary results "some ppl like pizza, some ppl like ham, but i personally like steak" its just how the cookie crumbles Congrats to all the bands that evening who did their best whether the qualified for finals, qualified for state, or just enjoyed their time creating unforgettable memories Edited October 26, 2008 by BDAZdrummer Quote

Keep it up. Yall have been getting better and better every year, and i bet next time around yall will be goin to state as a 5A band. Quote
jdrummer27 Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 i know this is kind of deviating from the talk of which bands did and didn't make state/finals, but does anybody know if there is any way to buy dvds of last night's performances? it didn't look like it to me, but maybe i'm just out of the loop Quote
helloband11 Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 I would also like to know where we can purchase videos of the performance Quote
BDAZdrummer Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 so Northshore beat dickinson by one point and the woodlands got DQed... so Northshore is now going to state... Quote
Trumpet of Doom Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Us here at The Woodlands are quite upset about this happening, but I still wish everyone in Area F including Northshore good luck at state. If anyone is interested in the reason for our disqualification, go to twhsband.com. Quote
Parkwoodmom Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 I would also like to know where we can purchase videos of the performance I also would love a video, at least of the finals, ....but the guy who taped it won't make any additional copies other than those that the directors received. All the copyright/lawsuit stuff. If someone finds a decent copy someplace, please let us know! It ended up being The Woodlands last performance and my own videos stink. Quote
