During the show act out the story behind Medea.

Hopefully your joking about that. I'm sorry but 4'33 is the dumbest concept of a song I've ever heard. The fact that he made money off of that is ridiculous

It would be interesting to watch at the very least. lol

Of course I am joking, that is practically half of a show dedicated to nothing. I cannot see this type of show working anywhere unless it had crazy GE drill moments or something.

Random question, to bump this thread now that we're all looking forward to next year's marching season (and if you believe that, you can have my oceanfront property in Arizona for $.02 an acre)...

Other than "Sweeney Todd," has any of Stephen Sondheim's music been used on a marching field?

No idea, but speaking of musicals:

Ok.....it's definitely high time we put THIS on the field, and I know some of you agree:

Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings

Maybe open with "Bliss", segue into "Children of Paradise", "Close Your Eyes" for the ballad and finish it off with "Libertas Imperio"? I dunno, you decide. This music is surreal.

EDIT: On this subject, like one above me I really do think Blue Man Group would sound great on the field.

I actually think it's ingenious, and I find it to be very intriguing.

Silence has always fascinated me, because it doesn't exist (outside of a vacuum). Even right now on your computer, you think it's pretty quiet, until you stop and actually listen, there's a heck of a lot of noise. The more you listen, the harder it is to ignore and the louder it gets. The whole point of the piece is making people aware of their surroundings. The music is the sounds that people never would have noticed had they not been made aware of them.

I've pondered having it done by a marching band, but I don't think it would work just because of the venues that marching band takes place at. I think it'd be more effective in a concert hall type setting. Also, the typical audience of band parents and high school kids would be pretty unreceptive and not care enough to understand it.

Oh my God. I love this music. I'll be on this FaceBook page just about everyday until I actually decide to buy the music.

has anyone ever done Lord of the Rings? It's one of the best movie scores around.

But on a ridiculous scale, anyone heard or heard of Bartok's Miraculous Mandarin? It's really intense and unsettling. Super difficult though

Not that I know of...but if you used that, you could also use selections from Johann de Meij's "Symphony No. 1: The Lord of the Rings."

Lord of the Rings would actually be pretty good if done right. You could both play the music and tell the story throughout the show. I'd love to see a good band do that.

Yes.

PCEP did "Sunday in the Park with George" in 1991.

hmm.....Does Westfield 2007 ("One" by Metallica) count?

And what about that Carmel (Indiana) show (2005 or 2006?) where they've got that electric guitar dude jamming out to "Iron Man"

Just a few others:

The Blue Devils did the Who's "Tommy" in 1990.

Westerville South did Pink Floyd's "The Wall" in 1996.

The section in "Bliss" at 1:47 on is pure sex.
