ndnorris7 Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 LD Bell is going to win it this year. The Quest is just too good. I don't think Marcus can crack them. Watch for Cedar Park to upset as well. Marcus has to watch their backs this year. Quote
Danpod Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 The contest is very evenly distributed across the blocks. The best part about State Contest?? Getting into the Alamodome for Finals. Always a treat. In all seriousness, this should be one of the best State Contests ever. I can't wait to check out the 3A contest as well! Quote
Donezo Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 I kind of hate that only one judge is a Texas high school marching band director. I'm not sure who else they would have asked though now that Dickinson and Connally are 5A and Scott Coulson (Poteet) judged the last three in a row... Quote
euphownz Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Yes, I am so excited we go 4th to last. Quote
AverageMarcher Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 (edited) woo! yay for a non early prelims performance! Edited October 27, 2008 by AverageMarcher Quote

ndnorris7 Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 To be honest, I could not stand Marcus at the beginning of the year. We competed against them at Plano East and I thought that they were so stuck up. But we met their Drum Majors at the retreat and they were extremely nice. So I've kind of developed a liking for them now. And their shows are extremely creative, props or no props lol. I think that LD Bell is still going to win it though. Marcus had their year two years ago and Bell is definitely loaded for bear this year. They're producing some massive, overpowering sounds. All without much edge. This is an extremely musically talented group. Quote
CPtenor Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 What do you think will happen this year? Any startling upsets or clear-cut victories? Quote
Kevin2009 Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I really like LD Bell and Marcus. I think it would be awesome, though if someone like Cedar Park came a took it though. It's time for a change up. Quote

It's time for a change up. Maybe they will pull a Phantom Regiment, knocking off the Cavs and Blue Devils, conquering one corp each night. CP could knock down one at BOA SA, then one at State. Although I still think the top three will end up Bell, Marcus, CP in that order. I will try and make finals. I doubt our director will have a rehearsal for Fridays football game on such a big day (with the election going on as well) Quote
ndnorris7 Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Agreed. Bell will win both State and BOA GN, I'm pretty sure of it. Quote
JediSaxSolis Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 To tell you the truth, I'd be really disappointed if Bell didn't take home the state champion title. Their show is just too good. The music is absolutely incredible. I'd say they definitely deserve it. Quote
CatchFire Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I'm thinking Cedar Park will definitely redeem themselves. Quote
borchnork Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I think if there's a huge upset to the Bell v. Marcus thing, it will come from Cedar Park. I think we'll see Woodlands in the finals this time around. Quote
sax5warrior Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Congratulations to these fine organizations. Quote
ndnorris7 Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I agree. The best chance for an upset is Cedar Park. But, alas, I have it: Bell Marcus Cedar Park Marcus and CP are really close this year though. I would expect a wider margin between Bell and Marcus than between Marcus and CP. Quote
borchnork Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I messed up my predictions darn it. =[ I do know one thing about Finals for sure though... The Green Brigade is going to Groove!!! haha I would like to see Hebron do really well this year though. Quote
emily winters Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 ceder park is definitely doing well this year, they have beat us at two contests already, i think they are a definite candidate for first at state! Quote
the terminator Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 i hate u all i haven't see neither ld bell or cedar park, does anyone have a link to their video? Quote
BassClariGrl Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 As much as I would love to see Cedar Park win state, I don't feel that they can beat Bell or Marcus. Why? Year after year, both bands seem to have the music, the drill and a little something extra when it comes to judge appeal, both UIL and BOA. But who knows...just my thoughts. I would be happy to be proven wrong though wether it be by CP, The Woodlands, or some other band winning it all. Quote
msbrittanymarie09 Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I'm honstly expecting L.D. Bell to take the State Championship this year. After getting the pleasure to see both Bell's and Marcus' show, Bell seems to execute theirs at a higher level. I think Marcus will end up taking second and Cedar Park will take third. All three of these shows are extremely exciting to watch. I can't wait to see them all Saturday and next Tuesday. Quote
borchnork Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 (edited) Something worth noting this year is how much cleaner Bell looks this year than they have in previous years. Sure they won Gnats last year, but there was a few sets in their drill that needed some more attention, similar to '06 with "The Remaining", which I think was what gave Marcus the edge to take state. From what I've seen of them this year though, the drill is nearly 100% flawless. I do generally prefer Marcus over Bell, but I think Bell is back to take the title. Donezo Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Yeah, I'm definitely thinking Bell, Marcus, and Cedar Park as the top 3, though you never know about Duncanville. I can also see a top 5 finish for Bowie. They really have the whole package this year. After that it's kind of wild. I imagine Churchill will make the top 10 despite a shaky performance at area. I can also see Westlake sneaking in with their great prelims time. Remember Akins in 2006? Berkner and Coppell also seem likely. For the tenth spot...hmm......I would love to see Brazoswood make state finals again and I think their late prelims time will really help. Of course there are about 10 other legitimate finals contenders. It's anyone's guess really. Quote
