bluebellbrass07 Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Only 3 Texas bands this year? how sad... on a side note, it'd be awesome to see Hidalgo to win the A division with Bell winning AAA Quote
takigan Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Not sure how feasible that is. The 'A' champion last year (Adair County) still placed 21st at GN overall; ....5 places behind Reagan. Adair would crush Hidalgo, though luckily since they aren't competing, Fred J. Page (2k7 National Class A runner-up) will be the biggest competition this year along with Monrovia. Fred J. Page placed 30th overall in Semi-finals. For comparison, Connally and Cypress Falls placed somewhere in this bracket at Nationals in 2006 (like 26th and 29th or something like that). How was Hidalgo's BOA record last year? They got 43rd at San Antonio, a contest that bands like Cypress Falls and Connally typically would place in the teens or 20s in. Though granted they nabbed this rank with a score of 72.10.....which when weighted for Grand Nationals would be somewhere between a 75-78. FJP got a 78.4 in Semi-finals at GN. Comparing these 2 contests to get an idea of how they'll fair is tough. In summation, I'd say that Hidalgo isn't a shoe-in for the Class Champion medal by any means.....they've got a shot, though they're going to have to work for it. If this were the old Hidalgo that used to win the 3A State Marching contest, they'd be a force to be reckoned with. That said, I have little doubt that Hidalgo will at least make Semi-finals at this event....and I think that's what the staff is banking on. Quote

Yeah that is sad.... Churchill is going to Hawaii next spring break to perform so it was decided that it would be too much finance-wise to go to both Hawaii and Indianapolis... Quote

I was not impressed....and judging off of what I've seen of hidalge this year, I'd say they have a nice shot Quote
mbui Posted November 12, 2008 Author Posted November 12, 2008 BOA Grand Nationals begins tomorrow! Discuss.... Quote
gmoney25 Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Even though we competed against them at BOA San Antonio and UIL State, I'm going to root my hardest for L.D. Bell in 3A and Hidalgo in A to go up to Indianapolis and take home the gold for Texas to prove that "band is just better in Texas". Quote
pj68 Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Remember that Indianapolis is in the Eastern Standard Time zone..... Good Luck to the Texas Bands....... Hope THE EAGLE comes back home to Texas. Quote
Spazztastic Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Colleyville leaves today!! Best of luck to Bell and Hidalgo!! :] Quote
Fata1 Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 I cannot wait. I'll be spending Friday and Saturday sitting in front of my computer. I'm really hoping Bell manages to defend their title. Quote

takigan Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 I see L.D. Bell making top 3 again (likely champions). Unless Colleyville has taken huge strides since Arlington and San Antonio, I say they have a 50/50 chance of making Semi-finals. I predict a 25th-35th place finish for them. I see Hidalgo possibly making Semi-finals on the basis of being selected as one of the class-based advancers, but not based on score. However, I don't see them winning the Class A championship. Those are my predictions. Quote

Actually, someone asked their director about it, so it spread onto a third forum where the topic was quickly deleted because of the higher ups not wanting the information to get out. There is a reason that we can't talk about the details. Quote

bluebellbrass07 Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 stuff like this is ruining the forums Oh come on. A little inside joke never hurt anyone. Whats ruining the forums is "my band got effed over at state, your band only marched and played for 37.634 seconds out of your 8:43 show, this band sounded terrible and for some reason judge c put them ahead of us, even though judge A put us ahead of them by 7,430 points, and your band has no class because they clapped 8 decibels louder for themselves than for us" Quote
