TRUMPet Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 Quote i have got to get better at reading everybody's post before posting..this is like the 5th time ive done this....ugh oh i wasnt talking to you we prob just posted at the same time so it looks like you responded to me Quote
BassoonPadwan Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 Heh maybe you could do it by section....... "Clarinets played and marched for 2:30 minutes of the show......" Quote
TRUMPet Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 that could be tough... unless you found a score. I know you sometimes cant hear woodwinds over brass and sometimes only leads play; to complicated. it'd be cool if you could though...."the lead horns play 2:50 and 2nds play 2:30...." Quote
JustAddWat3r Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 what if everybody just did one of their own show with their own section? Quote
TRUMPet Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 that just.... might..... work i'd do it Quote

ftwdrummer Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 OK. Based on the each-person-by-section thing: Paschal's pit plays for approximately 7:30, and marches for 0:00. Man, we don't march and play at all. Quote
Dynasty Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 Hmmm... how are all these videos online already? If txbands officially promoted anything like this the lawyers would be on us like a fat kid on cake. Quote

I can't seem to find the rule that says "Thou shalt always march while playing". I'm looking hard for that hard and fast rule that must be in place, can you help me find the documentation, or are you just making up the rules as you go? edit- I think it's funny how some complain about certain bands not marching and playing, but when you actually break it down with all the bands they're all pretty similar. On a side note, Bell's time looks a little shorter because they hardly march in the ballad this year compared to most. I personally wish they had a little more motion band-wise in that section, but the muscality and guard wayyyy makes up for it, at least for my entertainment value. I think were all talking about it from a difficulty stand point. And actually the "Holy Bible of Marching Band" written by some old Drum Corp guy that wrote a philosophy to teach any one to march says it: if its not on the move it doesnt Count Quote

I agree from the difficulty standpoint and really to an entertainment standpoint. While I love the modern approach to marching band, I still crave the balls to the wall intense marching and playing for 8-10 minutes. I have an appreciation for both approaches, as long as they're done well in their respective styles! Quote

radchad Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 It just a matter of perspective. Some shows are meant for a lot of playing and marching while others aren't. If you do a show that isn't, you just gotta make sure the parts that do move are CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN and that you have the music to back it all up. This is a very good show. It's not meant to move around too much, and that's how I view it. Quote

cowtipper105 Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 (edited) marching just takes away from the marching aspect of marching band Edited November 7, 2008 by cowtipper105 Quote
pj68 Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 The L.D. Bell Blue Raider Band will be having community performances on Friday, November 7th at 9:15PM at Pennington Field, and Saturday, November 8th at 9:15PM at Pennington Field (Saturdays performance will be in full uniform). All are invited to see, free of charge, the program of the 2008 BOA Houston Champion, BOA San Antonio Champion, UIL State Silver Medalist, and as of yet to be determined placement at BOA Grand Nationals! Maybe you can go and ask the band directors why they don't march and play!!!!!!! GO BELL Bring the EAGLE home again!!!!! Quote
Fata1 Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 I'm almost positive that I'll be going to see that. Quote
SeaMoosi Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 wow. this topic is epic win. haha. i wonder if the marching and playing arguements will ever stop... Quote
acsc1312 Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 I still haven't seen any timings of Marcus shows. I'd love to see 2006 and 2007. Let's include all bands instead of choosing one or a few. Quote
dtxtrmpt Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 You should do this with the top 3 bands from AAAA last year to see how they compare with their times! =) Quote
Rampart_Reg Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 With stats like this does it really even matter how much they march and play http://www.ldbellband.org/pdf/2008MedalStudy.pdf Quote
